How to Find The Vex Mythoclast Catalyst in Destiny 2

Destiny 2

Those of you who played the first Destiny game may very well remember the Vault of Glass Raid. If you do, you’re in luck because it’s back again in Destiny 2, the Season of the Splicer. Your reason for running through the Vault of Glass Raid again is a simple one: To obtain the Vex Mythoclast Catalyst. The Vex Mythoclast is considered by many to be one of the most powerful solar fusion rifles in the game, and its Catalyst makes it even more deadly. However, you know that the game developers aren’t going to make it easy for you, hence our article on how to obtain this legendary Exotic and its Catalyst.

The Vault of Glass Raid: Things to Remember

In order to obtain the Vex Mythoclast and its Catalyst, you’ll have to run through the Vault of Glass Raid. The process of this raid is much too complex to go over here, but The Gamer website has it nailed down nice and tight for you.

High Power Level

To help you get a jump start on getting your Vex Mythoclast and its Catalyst, we’ve compiled a list of tips and tricks to help you have an easier run through. First, remember that to get the best results, you’ll need a power level of 1,300. So take some extra time and level up before you start. Your power level dictates how much damage can handle, and how much you can dish out. The higher the power level, the better chances you have. Just finish your Powerful Gear sources, and you should be fine.

Raid Banners

Next, get yourself some Raid Banners before the Raid. You obtain the Raid Banners from Petra Venj, an Awoken soldier who resides in the Dreaming City. You can also get them from a character named Hawthorne in the Tower. Petra will sell you Raid Banners for 5,000 Glimmer or 3 Legendary Shards. Hawthorne’s price is 50,000 Glimmer/30 Legendary Shards for a bundle of 10.

Get a Team with a Capable Sniper

We’ll get into this on a deeper level a little later, but suffice it to say that if you’re going to go after the Mythoclast Catalyst, you’ll definitely need a trustworthy team and solid sharp shooter. If you don’t have a team, then visit the games forums and ask around.

What is the Vex Mythoclast?

The name “Mythoclast” actually is Greek for “Destroyer of Myths“. As a solar fusion rifle, it not only kills the enemy, but disintegrates the body as well. Found in the original Destiny game, this Exotic fusion rifle is a fan of Destiny gamers. In the first game you only came across it once you finished the Vault of Glass Raid mission in hard mode. In Destiny 2 you have to go through the Vault of Glass Raid again and defeat Atheon in order to get this weapon, which is a radom drop, meaning you may get it or may not.

The Vex Mythoclast will go into your Primary Weapon Slot. This fusion rifle won’t need to charge, and it can fire off sustained bursts, much like an automatic with one bolt per trigger pull. In Destiny 2 there’s a good chance that the Vex Mythoclast will drop after the last Vault of Glass Raid battle. This means that once you beat Atheon, there’s a probable chance that the Vex Mythoclast can be found among the loot. However, don’t get your hopes up just yet, as it’s a random drop, you may not even get it.

Indeed, it’s been calculated that only around one-third of players have received the Vex Mythoclast after beating Atheon. Since the drop rate of the Vex Mythoclast is determined by RNG (random number generator), the same method used by Vegas slot machines, the incidence of drops can be pretty low. To give you some idea of the drop frequency, check out the calculations made by some gamers. Please note, that unlike Destiny 1 you won’t have to play using the hard mode in order to get the Mythoclast. Then again, if you are lucky enough to get the Vex Mythoclast, then the next step is to obtain its Catalyst.

How to Get the Catalyst for the Vex Mythoclast

In order to get the Catalyst you’ll have to run through the Vault of Glass Raid again. In the Vault of Glass Raid, you’ll find 5 plates. In order to unlock the catalyst for the Vex Mythoclast, you’ll have to shoot all 5 plates using the Vex Mythoclast. Note that the 5 plates are spread throughout the area, so you’ll have to do some searching. As you can see, gathering a team together before the raid can be a great help. However, it’s not as easy as it seems. For you see, each time you shoot a plate, Oracles are spawned.

This means you’ll have to kill the Oracles before you can continue to the next plate. Not only that, but you’ll be required to eliminate the Oracles in the exact same order from which they spawned, and all before a gong sounds. Once you get to the last plate, you can collect the Catalyst. Once you do that, you can continue with the raid or if all you wanted was the Catalyst in the first place, you can ignore finishing the raid.

Locations of Each Plate Eliminating the Oracles

Now that you’ve got the basic idea, it’s time to get a good idea where the plates are. As stated before, this is quite a bit more complex. In fact, words can’t do it justice, so we’ll include this video from Fallout Plays. Here, he not only shows you the location of the plates, but also the Oracles. One final thing, when it comes to killing Oracles, think about equipping either a Deathbringer or Xenophage, as both weapons are top-notch when it comes to eliminating Oracles.

Plate Locations

  • Plate number 1 is located to the right of your spawning location. Search until you find a cave in the back wall
  • Plate number 2 can be found on a secret pathway when on your way to the Templars. You find it before you fight the boss
  • Plate number 3 is found after you beat the Templar, inside the Gorgon’s Labrynth
  • Plate number 4 is found after you defeat the Gorgon’s, at the right of the jumping puzzle.
  • Plate number 5 is at the left side of the jumping puzzle once you beat the Gorgons and are on the way to fight Atheon. Locate a large pillar, and it’s behind it.

Finding the plates and eliminating the oracles sounds easy, but it requires skill and teamwork. However, there are still a few things to remember so that this all goes smoothly. First, know that each plate will add another Oracle as you go, which can make things a tad more difficult. In other words, plate number one will have 3 Oracles, plate 2 will have 4 and so on. Also, in order to activate the plates just standing on them isn’t enough. Only a Guardian holding the Vex Mythoclast can activate the plate.

As you can tell, getting your hands on the Catalyst isn’t exactly going to be a box of chocolates. In order to lessen the frustration, it’s best to gather some kindred spirits and work together, especially since some of the Oracles are far apart from one another. Remember, you’ve a limited amount of time to eliminate them and their elimination must be in a certain order. One final note, dealing with the Oracles gets harder with each plate, so plan on having plenty of patience on this one. Finally, once you’ve obtained the Vex Mythoclast Catalyst, there’s the little fact of having to eliminate close to 700 enemies in order to make usable.

In Summary

Obtaining the Vex Mythoclast and its Catalyst will require skill, patience and a good team to rely on. Though the steps are simple, the follow-through is hard. So to give you an assist we’ll summarize the process for you here:

  • Run through the Vault of Glass Raid
  • When you defeat Atheon the Vex Mythoclast may drop as drop rate is low
  • Once you have the Vex Mythoclast, look for 5 plates
  • A Guardian equipped with the Mythoclast steps on a plate
  • Oracles are released from the plate
  • You and your team eliminate the Oracles
  • A loot chest appears where you’ll collect the Catalyst

That’s a pretty tall order, but with the proper weapons, armor and team members you should be able to get through it. Just keep in mind information on the drop rate. The truth is, you can successfully perform the raid and still not get a Mythoclast. So don’t be hard on yourself if you have to do several run-throughs before you get one.
