A Gallery of the Most Terrifying Commander Shepards in Existence

Mass Effect was heralded as a significant step forward for video games because it allowed you to create your own character that was the focus of the story-driven title. That meant that at long last, you could be not only male or female, but whatever race you wanted to boot.

The hero of the story was a being entirely of your own creation, and as such, many gamers felt like they could be more invested in the story than ever.

But the Mass Effect creation system has been a victory for another class of people as well, ugly people. There’s nothing that says the characters you design have to be pretty, and when the measurement sliders are thrust to the extreme, the face concoctions you get can be downright horrifying.

But that’s…ugly-ist, I’d say (whatever racism is for ugly people), and just because you’re unfortunate looking, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be allowed to save the galaxy.

Here’s a gallery of misfits who became the greatest hero the universe has ever known. I could have never played with them, as I’m the type of person who reset their game because “Sonya Shepard’s” eyes were a millimeter too close together, but if you made it through the entire thing looking like this, I salute you.

  7. My dude looks like me from the side, but now from the front. I wish there were more robust character creation options, even though its already exceptional. Face mapping with the kinect or move camera would be cool too

  9. I will admit, my first Shepard was pretty ugly (think Danny Trejo crossed with Steve Buscemi) but each new game, I thrive to make him even uglier. My final Shepard has a lack of eyebrows, a huge forehead, and almost clear eyed, as well as a face adorned with (glowing?) scars. And the end result is I have finally reached the point where he is almost too ugly. He is hard to look at. It makes all his sexual conquests that much creepier, too.

  10. A little saddening that a lot of these characters have thick lips, lets you in on the mind of who made these of what they think is ugly which the majority has thick lips.

    1. With 4 and 10, it’s not the thick lips but the make up and pale eyebrows that make them stand out, they’d look a lot better with darker hair and more neutral makeup, two of the others it’s their pale skin and black lipstick and the second last one on page one looks like a clown.

      The ones who’s mouth shape looks worst are the ones with really thin lips.

      There were a lot of ‘ugly’ inquisitors who looked freaky due to shockingly awful makeup choices

  12. I call bullshit on the top one from the second page. That’s obviously Legion’s body. That superimposed femshep’s face is clearly doctored.
