Dead Island Keeps Pulling on Those Heartstrings

Dead Island achieved something rather spectacular last year. It created one of the most powerful trailers ever seen across not only video games, but movies and television as well. it’s told-backwards story of a family torn apart by zombie horror is something that still sticks with me to this day, and I’ll be damned if I don’t play that piano track every so often when I’m looking for something dramatic.

Now with the sequel on the way in 2013, Dead Island: Riptide, they’re trying to do it again. It’s not even close to the original trailer, but again it’s a pretty heartwrenching little spot (that I feel could have benefitted from another minute or so of set-up).

Unfortunately, the games, so far, have none of this emotion attached to them. Perhaps they’ll learn a lesson for the sequel and actually infuse some of their trailer emotion into the actual title.

  1. I don’t have much hope for the game but yes, another good trailer. Couldn’t agree more on the set-up comment. It was a bit rushed when the couple lit the lighter…

  2. Its not a bad trailer but it is no where near as powerful as the original, the transition from the boat at sea to the zombie’s attacking it is far too rushed and the animations seem stiff, the two characters don’t move very naturally, I honestly don’t see why they bother with a trailer like this the original game was nothing like the trailer as we all know, in fact it was a pretty poor game from a technical standpoint and pretty awful when it came to leaving the the player with any sort emotional resonance, the original trailer was extremely powerful and honestly made me cry (I know but that was a sad trailer), the game made me laugh and I don’t hold out much hope for the sequel being any different, the problem is zombies are rarely portrayed in a scary or serious way nowadays look at dead rising as a prime example, anyway not a bad trailer but nothing the original but in the end what does it matter as the original trailer was lie as i’m sure this one will be
