The Top Five Racing Games On PS5

Racing games are like therapy to me when it comes to gaming. Just the feeling of going fast, lapping others and drifting. There’s something that really resonates with me. Throughout the years the racing genre has gone through a multitude of changes. I remember starting with the original Gran Turismo and focusing on being the fastest at every turn. Trying to go for the fastest times and make sure my driving was perfect. Then I got into other games like Burnout Revenge and Need for Speed: Underground 2. Now racing was a little different. With Burnout it was about being the fastest and knowing when to make the other drivers spin out. With Need for Speed: Underground 2 it was about being the fastest and the best looking car on the track. Then things started to get a little more interesting with games like Burnout Paradise and Need for Speed: Heat which introduced the open-world style of gameplay which was breathtaking and addictive. You could take your favorite cars and just traverse the whole map. With all these new styles of racing games and with the power of the PS5 not even being close to unlocked we wanted to highlight a few of the racing games that have already come in and made their mark. These are five of the top racing games available for the PS5 right now.

DIRT 5

Starting with a game that takes us off the streets and straight into the dirt with DIRT 5. Codemasters describes this fifth installment in the series as “a fun, amplified, off-road arcade racing experience created by Codemasters. Blaze a trail on routes across the world, covering gravel, ice, snow, and sand, with a roster of cars ranging from rally icons to trucks, to GT heroes. With a star-studded Career, four-player split-screen, innovative online modes, livery editor, and more new features, DIRT 5 is the next generation of extreme racing.”. Sometimes when you play a racing game you don’t want to just do another track. You want to go off into the dirt and hit some bumps while seeing the mud fall off your tires. DIRT 5 has all of that and more. With some incredible cars and some hectic four-player split-screen racing, you’re sure to have the time of your life.

Gran Turismo 7

We can’t have a Playstation racing game list without the grandfather of all the racing games. Gran Turismo 7 is a game that will satisfy any racer  “Whether you’re a competitive or casual racer, collector, tuner, livery designer or photographer – find your line with a staggering collection of game modes including fan-favorites like GT Campaign, Arcade, and Driving School.” If you really want to feel like you’ve entered the most complete racing sim in recent times then there is nowhere else to go but Gran Turismo. You’ll get so deep into this game that pretty soon you’ll see yourself going online and buying a racing wheel only to swivel out of control the first time you take it for a spin. But once you do get the hang of it, it will become one of the most satisfying things to see yourself come in first after an intense race. Gran Turismo 7 is just a must-have for any racing fan.

Hot Wheels Unleashed

Hot Wheels Unleashed is what we all dreamed as kids we would have one day. We weren’t sure when or how exactly, but we knew that absolutely needed it at some point in our lives. Well, it’s finally here and thankfully it’s as wonderful as we always thought it would be. To say that Hot Wheels Unleashed is my go-to racing game on the PS5 right now is something that I never imagined myself saying a year ago today. But it is, and it’s a fantastic time. Hot Wheels Unleashed brings everything we love about Hot Wheels and packs it into an amazing virtual experience. You know how we all have favorite cars and enjoy making tracks to race them on? That’s possible in Hot Wheels Unleashed. Milestone, the developers of Hot Wheels Unleashed, have described the Track Builder as a space where players can “Get full control of the iconic orange track piece, the backbone of the numerous interactive modules available in the game! Twist it, bend it, stretch it and select its appearance changing color and style to place it on your track exactly as you want! Making jumps, loops, and twisty circuits has never been easier… There’s enough to make your head spin! So follow your vision and turn it into the best track ever!”. Add into this that there are already dozens of tracks from creators just like you and you get a game that just keeps on giving. Seriously, give Hot Wheels Unleashed a try.

Destruction All-Stars

Not all racing games need to be about racing. Okay, it sounds a little weird to say but hear me out. Sometimes racing really builds up your adrenaline in a way that you really can’t explain. In moments like this, we used to rely on Twisted Metal. A game that combined the high-intensity speeds of racing with the destructive nature of combat-based games. Nowadays we have something a little different. It’s called Destruction All-Stars. Destruction All-Stars puts you in a demolition derby-style game where you can play in a car or out of it. What we mean is that sometimes your vehicle is going to get destroyed and you’ll have no choice but to go on foot to try and survive and get other people out of their cars. Technically it’s not a racing game but it’s still a really fun game revolving around vehicles that we wanted to spotlight.

F1 2021

This year’s Formula 1 championship has been nothing short of heartache for many fans of the sport, so what better way to celebrate than to hop into a Formula car of your own and explore the tracks that have captivated us this whole season? F1 2021 really feels like an ode to Formula 1 fans everywhere. Players can build their own team and see as their career unfolds. The racing is top-notch and will have players feel like their in a formula car racing at incredible speeds. It’s a breathtaking game and one that you definitely can not miss.
