Awesome Video Games I Own That I Never Finished
Yesterday, I posted a GIF compilation article on Gamemoir about how gamers react to video game sales. One of the the major things I pointed out was the fact that we tend to hoard video games and never finish them. Are we saving money if we never actually play the games to begin with?
I’ve often told myself that I will only purchase the video games that I will surely play. Like many others, this was easier said than done. It’s not that these games were terrible. They’re awesome games that I was pining to have since it came out. I was eagerly waiting for a sale so I could snatch them up for good deal. Sometimes I feel like I push myself to finish a video game more if I bought it for $60 or else I would have buyers remorse.
I don’t have a specific reason for not finishing each game. I think it came down to just me being busy or taking these games for granted because I got them so easily. Let me know if there is anything that I should seriously push up to my priority list! I would also love to hear your own stack of games you’ve taken for granted in the comments.
1. Infamous 1 and 2
2. Uncharted 2 and 3
3. Assassin’s Creed Revelations
4. Tomb Raider
5. Sleeping Dogs
6. The Witcher series
7. Mirror’s Edge
8. Batman: Arkham Asylum
9. Far Cry 3
10. Spec Ops: The Line
After finally taking into account all of the video games that I have taken for granted, I totally feel like I’m disrespecting these awesome games by not playing them. Summer is almost over and I barely touched these video games. I’m not even a big completionist in video games since I mostly play games to experience the story and to have fun. It’s quite funny how I rave about video game sales, but I rarely make the most out of it. Perhaps, I should print out a list of all these games and have it plastered on my wall to remind me not to buy too much video games in the future.
Shame…..SHAME!!!
Fuck me, I’m in a way worse predicament than yourself.
Mirror’s Edge
The Witcher 2
Crysis 2
Dead Space
Hitman: Blood Money
Medal of Honor
Rage
Terraria
The Last of Us (Gamefly)
The Walking Dead (just purchased)
Resistance
Little Big Planet 2
Fallout: New Vegas (in the process of finishing, but not quite there yet)
On your list:
Infamous 1 is pretty “meh” for me. Fun for a bit, but repetitive as all hell.
AC: Revelations is the worst one in the series, in my opinion, but some people enjoyed it.
Far Cry 3 is repetitive as hell, but probably one of my favorite games I’ve played recently. The story’s fun, but the repetitiveness sets in when you’re clearing out forts. However, changing up how you clear out those forts or trying to be as stealthy as possible (like running into the center of the fort, distracting a guard and laying a mines down) kept it fun, for me.
I have that same exact list, but add in, say, 30 or so games. When I was younger, I always finished games. But now I’m married, have kids, a job that requires a bunch of overtime, and I just don’t have time to play games all the way through.
Then again, thinking about it, I do. I’ve got a ton of hours logged into Skyrim, New Vegas, and various other games. So why haven’t I finished a relatively short game like Spec Ops? I really don’t know.
I also leave a ton of games installed on my computer that I never play, but keep just on the off chance that I feel like playing it some day.
It should be a crime, Benny. Are you sure it isn’t a reason to get fired from the site?
Yeah there are definitely a lot more games I didn’t include in the list. These are the top ten games I feel the most regret for not finishing and what I feel most gamers would think ‘shameful.’
Yes, Emilio. I should be arrested for not giving these games the attention they deserve. The video game social worker is coming soon…
I also think that it’s not just lack of time. Add in the fact that there are so many games out there, we need a game that can really hold our attention.
You can’t see this, but I am throwing tomatoes at my monitor right now, BB. Nah, I’ve got a few regrets there, but they are all crazy-long RPG’s I put dozens of hours into before getting interrupted by a can’t-miss new release. I mean to get back to them, but it’s like I can’t remember what I was doing and those kinds of games require the use of tactics and keeping all of your characters’ various abilities in mind and if I drop back into the latter part of the game I get smashed because I can’t remember what’s what anymore.
You seriously need to make The Line a top priority, changed the way I felt about the shooter genre.
I’ve had both Witcher 1 and 2 for a few years now and I just can’t finish them. I need to finish the first one before I play the second (like, I physically can’t start 2 until I finish 1).
I also haven’t finished:
Bioshock 2, Deus Ex: Human Revolution (or any other of the series), Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth, Cthulhu Saves the World, Cold Fear (almost finished then my hard drive crashed and I haven’t gotten around to re-installing it), Hitman (Silent Assassin and Blood Money), and the Thief Trilogy (can’t get it to work properly).
From GoG, I haven’t finished any of those games that I want to:
Baldur’s Gate 1 and 2, Planescape Torment, Heroes of Annihilated Empires, Dragonsphere, Beneath a Steel Sky.
And these are just all the games I’m sad I haven’t finished yet, not to mention I plan on getting the Icewind Dale series soon, or all the games I no longer intend to finish.
Personally, AC: Revelations was my favorite Assassin’s Creed game, except for Brotherhood. Also Arkham is just fantastic. If you haven’t played it or Arkham City, that’s one series I’d tell you to finish, if only for City’s fantastic ending.
Back in the PSOne days I had some friends in a gaming store so I could get games for real cheap and then somewhere around 2003 my PSOne broke down and I never had it fixed so for a while I had a huge stack of games that I played very little of and some that I never even played, after some time I just started selling them myself
After that I stoped buying games compulsevely but there is always the eventual Steam sale that gets me off guard
stop playing Mass Effect for a few hours (20 or so) and play Tomb Raider. Then you can go back to Mass Effect.
My copy of Mirror’s Edge was suffering the same… until a couple of weeks ago (when it got famous again in Reddit because of the humble bundle sale) I grabbed it and dedicated all my free evenings to it.
It’s not that long, actually, you can finish it in about 2 weeks of not-that-heavy gaming. Pretty nice.
Now I should continue with Batman AA…
Most of these are understandable, but Mirror’s Edge and Spec Ops are pretty short games. Either game shouldn’t take longer than a weekend to finish, given ample time of course.
I know the feeling, although my PS3 list would be shorter:
Tomb Raider
Resident Evil 5
Sonic Generations
But don’t talk to me about Steam. I have tons of games that I bought on indie bundles which i’ve played for, like, ten minutes.
Uncharted 2 & 3 are not that long. I think I finished them in 10-13 hours each game. For my PS3 i have a couple of them waiting in line:
The last of us (currently playing)
Dragons dogma
Ni no kuni
Resident evil 5 & 6
AC 2, Revelations, Brotherhood & 3
Dagons crown
Vanquish
Dishonored
And replaying (played them on the older cosoles):
MGS HD Collection
Zone of Enders HD Collection
ICO & Shadow of the Collosos HD Collection
Last month I bought a new PC and for now I have only 2 games on it:
Dragon age 2 (still haven’t finished from my old PC)
The Witcher 2
I would definitely recommend Uncharted (If you liked the first one, you would love the second and third one), Infamous, Batman and Tomb Raider. All great games!
-Zelda Wind Waker
-Zelda Twilight Princess
-Zelda Skyward Sword
-Xenoblade Chronicles
-Last Story
-Fatal Frame 4
-Red Dead Redemption
-Mafia II
Well…at least I’m not the only one. I only finished the first and second
-Assassin’s Creed games. I have all of them, but those are the only two that I finished. They are a bit too…overwhelming for me to finish.
-Bioshock Infinite. *le gasp!* Yeah…I have to upgrade my computer, the performance is really bad so I haven’t been able to finish it.
-Dishonored
-Fear and Fear 2
Except for Bioshock Infinite(pc), the others I had for Xbox 360. Long story short, there was a house fire a few months ago, and they all got destroyed. *cries*
