10 Crazy Korean Professional Starcraft Matches
Let’s be clear, this is a post mainly for Starcraft fans. Anyone else who stumbles upon this will most likely leave scratching their heads as to how anyone could get so into a ten year old video game. But in fact, Starcraft has become something of a professional sport in Korea, with it’s top players getting sponsorship deals and becoming national celebrities.
I had vaguely heard about this kind of gaming hero worship over there, but I didn’t realize the full extent of it until I started watching the televised matches. These kids are literally revered as gods over there. In Korea, Stork, Flash, Jaedong, Savior and GGPlay are as well known as Jordan, Woods, Phelps and A-Rod are here.
To be a pro Starcraft player requires over 300 clicks and button presses a minute, or five a second, which is ****ing insane, in case you can’t tell. These kids might not be atheletes, but there’s no denying they have skills.
I’ve compiled ten matches with English commentary that range from a five minute SCV rush to an epic hour and a half long Protoss/Zerg saga. It’s a great time killer if you’re bored at work, and tired of watching cats riding skateboards or preteens falling off trampolines. Sure these videos will be mainly for Starcraft players, but even newcomers will be stunned at the spectacle and excitement that surround each of these events.
