A person doesn’t have to have a degree in philosophy in order to dispense wisdom. Even the most humble minds out there can give out a good dose of wisdom. In fact, even a simple word can express volumes of wisdom.
This week’s piece of Geek Wisdom comes from Spongebob Squarepants. It may be from a children’s program but that single word should remind us that have something that we used to use a lot when we
were young.
The Quote: “Imagination!”
The story behind the quote: Spongebob Squarepants is a cartoon series by Nickelodeon of a sponge
who lives in a pineapple under the sea and goes on different… well, not adventures per se. Rather, he goes
through different tales in Bikini Bottom, a fictional (obviously) town under water.
The quote comes from the episode entitled “Idiot Box.” Here, Spongebob and his best friend, Patrick Star
(a very apt last name for a starfish) waits for a huge TV to be delivered. The duo’s neighbor, Squidward, is
amazed that they just throw the TV away and they start to play with the box. Squidward confronts the two
why they’re just playing with the box when they can watch TV on their huge… TV. Spongebob simply says
that you can do much more with your imagination.
The Geek Wisdom we can take from it: Reality is pretty dull if you take it as what it is: reality.
Imagination is something that brings magic in everyday life. It could be the simple thought of looking
up at clouds and seeing shapes or simply dreaming up a story in your head. Imagination also gives birth
to ideas. I would think that all of the things that we have around our house from a guy/gal thinking they
could think of something better than what they had at the time.
That’s the other important thing about imagination. It’s never bound by the reality of the time. Before, the
reality was that people could not fly from place to place. Well, that simply isn’t the case anymore as we
have the airplane. Before, there was no way that you could have a computer in a home. But you’re using
one right now to read this, right?
Imagination is one of the things that is limitless in potential and is not bound by anything. Make use of it
from time to time.
