Universal Building a Real Life Cabin in the Woods

Oh my god, this is the best thing I’ve heard all week. I haven’t been to an amusement park since Cedar Point ran out of room to make good roller coasters, but I’ll be damned if I’m not going to be getting my ass to Universal Orlando on the wake of this news. Did you read the title? They’re building a real life Cabin in the Woods.

“We are building the cabin completely. You’re going to walk through a forest to get there. You’re going into the cabin. You’re going to go into the cube cells. We’re literally taking everything we can in the film and giving you a kind of best-of montage of the film with this kind of linking story,” Universal Orlando Entertainment Team member Michael Aiello tells Zap2it. “You’re going to be in the control room when merman attacks.”

I don’t really understand what the hell he’s talking about with the interactive element of this, but it sounds like a haunted house slash museum devoted to the brilliant film, and that’s good enough for me. I’d love for the ability to press buttons and send fake monsters after other unsuspecting tourists, but that may be a touch harder to orchestrate.

  1. Welp, living in Florida and having an annual pass to Universal Studios just paid for itself! The interactive element comes in people jumping out and scaring the bejeesus out of you (and possibly being able to choose others form of demise – I’d select “Angry Molesting Tree” for others, personally).

This is for Halloween Horror Nights, so not a permanent attraction unfortunately, meaning you need to get down here between Sept 20 and Nov 2 to experience it! I will definitely be making the short trip, possibly multiple times.

  2. For the interactive side, I’m guessing it’s going to be a walk-through attraction a la the Mummy exhibit at Universal Studios (THE Universal studios in LA)
