Co-founder of video game studio Bungie Jason has experienced tremendous success in producing RPG games. He hasn’t received a lot of awards and recognition, but his work speaks for itself.

4. John Romero

Doom 64 is a classic… For many, it was the first first-person shooting game they ever played… The trigger of a lifetime love. You can thank John Romero for that. Winner of the Development Legend award at Brighton in 2017, he also helped develop “Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Commander” “Marvel Super Hero Squad Online” and many other titles that have entertained gamers of all ages.

3. Sid Meier

If you’ve ever played the computer game series “Civilization” then you know the name, Sid Meier, especially since his name is included in the formal titles of the game series. Sid has been developing games since the 80’s, starting with 1982’s cult classic “Formula 1 Racing.” In 2009, he was ranked second in IGN’s list of “Top Game Creators of All Time” and has also received a Lifetime Achievement Award from The Game Developers Conference.

Best known for his innovations in 3D graphics, it’s no shock that in 2014 Facebook tapped him to be the CTO at Oculus VR.

1. Markus Persson

The man created Minecraft…need I say more? Not only did it secure his legendary status, create one of the most addictive games of the past 20 years… But it also made him a billionaire… If Minecraft was only the beginning for the 38 year old Sweden native, I wonder what’s next for Persson.

Conclusion

The skill and the vision of the developers on this list are nothing short of incredible. Let’s all hope that they continue to amaze us with their creations. And even though they don’t get worldwide recognition for their work, I suspect that watching us all find joy and excitement in the video games they worked hard to create is more than enough for them.
