The Great and Powerful Oz is Actually Army of Darkness
Alright, read the Pixar Universe theory from an hour ago, and then head into yet another conspiracy post here. It turns out that Sam Raimi has made the same movie twice, The Great and Powerful Oz, and Army of Darkness.
It’s not so much a conspiracy as it is an observation that the two movies have remarkably similar plot structures as a man with access to grand technology makes a splash in an old era world corrupted by dark magic.
There’s plenty of more similarities to be found, so much so that it almost seems a bit lazy on Raimi’s part, and you can find them all in the video above.
“Oz the Great and Powerful was a dense, category 5 shitstorm of sadness and cinematic diarrhea.”
Wow. Just that description. Phenomenal.
Maddox!
You know, i watched that movie, and it wasn’t bad. But i won’t lie, I was just waiting to see Bruce Campbell on screen.
In other news, Army of Darkness is getting a comic reboot. . . just throwing that out there.

Part of the deal is that both of these movies riff on well-established cliches. The difference between them is that one is a self-aware comedy and the other is pretty much straight awful. I agree with the reviewer’s conclusion.
