Behold, The New Mountain of Game of Thrones
Game of Thrones has a tendency to recast characters that were featured early on, but now they’ve come back with more pressing plotlines. They did it with Berric Dondarrion, who changed actors from season one to season three, and now it’s happening again with The Mountain. Turns out he will not be the same guy who cut the head off the horse in the jousting match in season one. Rather, that actor has been replaced by Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson, who will be playing Gregor Clegane in a beefed up role for season four.
Here he is next to Cersei for reference, in case you couldn’t tell from him standing by himself that this is a human being at least 50% larger than any other. The Mountain, indeed.
I’m really looking forward to season four, and the Mountain has some great moments to shine. Looking forward to see how terrifying Björnsson is in full armor.
This is the third actor who will play The Mountain. They changed him from Conan Stevens in season 1, to Ian Whyte in season 2. And now Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson for season 4.
Holy mother of a Clegane
I think the new Daario is the best new season upgrade but I have a not so secret crush on Michiel Huisman.
