Avatar: The Last Phantom Hope

I was trying to think of a title that could combine Avatar: The Last Airbender with both the new and old Star Wars trilogies, and this was the best I came up with.

We’ve got Appa, Sokka and Aaang as Episode IV’s, Chewie, Han and Luke; Uncle Iroh as Empire’s Yoda; Momo and Zuko as Episode I’s Jar Jar and Maul and finally Katara as Attack of the Clones-era Padme, complete with perfect bodysuit midriff rip.  All in all, it’s a fantastic piece from artist Dave Filoni.

Who out there is super excited for The Legend of Korra? Incidentally, if you haven’t seen the original Airbender series, it’s a must see for any age group. Just pretend like the M. Night Shyamalan move never happened.

  1. I watched the first episode of the Legend of Korra. I don’t think I will watch another episode. They alienated me with the setting, and the introduction of modern politics. Part of what made me enjoy Avatar was the exploration of bending and Aaang’s growth as the Avatar. This new series took all of that away. I guess I wish they had gone back in time, not forward.

  2. I loved the original series and I wasn’t sure when I saw the first episode of Korra as I felt like Sam above – that i’d miss what I liked about the original. However, having watched the first two episodes now, I think it’s fantastic. It didn’t need to be a rehash of the original as we’ve already got that. The writing, humour, heart and awesome animation is all still there and its going to be really interesting where they take the character and world. I couldn’t be happier with what I’ve seen so far.

  3. Zuko is supposed to be Anakin in Revenge of the Sith. He has a slash skar over his right eye just like Anakin does. Also Mauls robes were the same shade as his cloak.

  4. OMG! I just watched the first two episodes (currently the only ones relesed of the 26 episodes spread across two seasons mini-series) of ‘The Legend of Korra,’ and it was AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am still geeking out. It’s funny and the great art direction is back. Korra on-fire hot-looking 8P*** And with Steve Blum voicing the apparent villain, this show is shaping up to join my pantheon of cartoons and movies that should be immortalized!

Now if only we could erase everyone’s mind and all possible evidence of ‘The Last Airbender’ (look out Shamalan, The Adjustment Bureau is coming after you!).
