What is the Cast of Firefly Up to Today?

‘Firefly’ was a space Western drama television series that was aired on the Fox Network between 2002 and 2003. Joss Whedon created this series under his Mutant Enemy Productions label. It features an ensemble cast who live on Serenity and is set in 2517. It follows the crew of Serenity, a Firefly-class spaceship, and a group of young people who live as part of a pioneer culture of their star on the fringe of society. There were originally 14 episodes planned for this series, but it was canceled after just eleven. Despite this, it had strong ratings and won a 2003 Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Special Visual Effect for a Series. Whedon also created a 2005 film called ‘Serenity’ that was a continuation of the story. If you were a fan of this space Western drama series, you may have wondered what happened to the cast and what they have been up to since. Here is what the cast of ‘Firefly’ is up to today.

Nathan Fillion

In ‘Firefly’, Nathan Fillion played the lead role of Malcolm ‘Mal’ Reynolds who is the owner and captain of Serenity. Between 2009 and 2016, he played the role of Richard Castle in the series ‘Castle’ for 173 episodes. He then played a series of small roles in television before landing the role of Jacques Snicket in ‘A Series of Unfortunate Events’. He appeared in this series for nine episodes. His current role is the lead character of John Nolan in ‘The Rookie’. Fillion is also appearing in the 2018 psychological thriller ‘Nomis’. This is written and directed by David Raymond.

Gina Torres

Gina Torres played the role of Zoe Alleyne Washburne, who was second-in-command on Serenity. One of her main roles since leaving ‘Firefly’ was playing Jessica Pearson in 94 episodes of ‘Suits’ between 2011 and 2018. She is reprising this role for a new spin-off series called ‘Second City’, but the date this series will premiere has yet to be released.

Alan Tudyk

The role of Hoban ‘Wash’ Washburne was played by Alan Tudyk. This character was the pilot of Serenity and Zoe’s husband. Tudyk has continued to have a successful career in both film and television. The films in which he has appeared since 2015 include ‘Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials’, ‘Trumbo’, ‘Oddball’, ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’, and ‘Deadpool 2’. He has also had voice roles in ‘Zootopia’, ‘Moana’, and ‘Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2’. In television, he has provided the voice of Ludo Avarius/ River Butterfly in ‘Star vs. the Forces of Evil’ since 2015. He is also currently providing the voice for Alistair Krei in ‘Big Hero 6: The Series’.

Morena Baccarin

Morena Baccarin played the role of Inara Serra, a Companion, in ‘Firefly’. She is another of the ‘Firefly’ cast members who have gone on to enjoy a successful career in both film and television. In recent years, the films in which she has had roles include ‘Spy’, ‘Deadpool’, and ‘Deadpool 2’. She has also had voice roles in ‘Batman: Bad Blood’ and ‘Malevolent’. In television, she played Jessica Brody in 29 episodes of ‘Homeland between 2011 and 2013. Baccarin also provided the voice of Gideon in ‘The Flash’. Currently, she is playing Dr. Leslie Thompkins in ‘Gotham’. Since 2015, she has appeared in 75 episodes of this series.

Adam Baldwin

In ‘Firefly’, Adam Baldwin played the role of a mercenary called Jayne Cobb. In 2017, he provided the voice of the narrator for the short film ‘Vault of the Macabre: The House Upon the Hill’. He has had multiple roles in television series and films. Between 2007 and 2012, he played John Casey in ‘Chuck’ for 91 episodes. From 2014 to the current day, he has provided the voice for Commander/ Captain Mike Slattery for 36 episodes of ‘The Last Ship’.

Jewel Staite

Jewel Staite played the role od Kaywinnet Lee ‘Kaylee’ Frye in ‘Firefly’. Some of her major roles since then have included Dr. Jennifer Keller in ‘Stargate: Atlantis’, Raquel Westbrook in ‘The L.A. Complex’, Caroline Swift in ‘The Killing’, and Melody Ravensfall in ’Animism: The God’s Lake’. Her most recent role was in 2018 playing Detective Penny Hart in an episode of ‘The Detectives’. The last film in which she appeared was ‘How to Plan an Orgy in a Small Town’ in 2015. She has been married twice and has one child.
