The Best Last Words in Movies
Sometimes the most important thing in a movie character’s life isn’t necessarily the way he or she lived but the way they died. Granted the life up to that death is usually significant but the death itself is just as important for living characters to move on and make a change.
And what better a way to relay an ideal or message to the audience than a great set of last words before a demise?
Here are 6 awesome last words in movies….
We’d like to thank Listverse for some of these.
William Wallace – “Freedom!”

Despite all of the death in his life, Wallace never gives up. He never gives in. As Morgan Freeman says in Shawshank Redemption “every man has his breaking point.” It sure doesn’t seem like Wallace ever did. Hell he knew he’d be torn limb from limb and he refused to numb his pain. And in his final moment, he finally screamed what we wished would always come true for the Scots.
Colonel Kurtz – “The horror…the horror…”

Possibly one of the eeriest characters in the history of movies, Colonel Kurtz was one messed up soldier. He goes insane (as we know) and creates a nutty native army in Cambodia. Martin Sheen is sent in to kill him. As Kurtz is getting killed he utters those words which are actually from a novella called Heart of Darkness.
Obi Wan Kenobi – “You can’t win, Darth. If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you can possibly imagine.”

Turns out he was right eh? Clearly Obi-Wan worked out better as more of a spiritual guide to Luke than as a living being who could tear shit up on his own. Besides Luke had Yoda in physical form. He didn’t need two dudes did he?
Charles Foster Kane – “Rosebud”

It’s probably the most famous last word in the history of cinema. What’s even cooler about this line is that no one hears it. It is only the character of Kane who can hear himself say the word.
Yoda – “There is Another Skywalker.”
This was one of the coolest “mystery” lines of all time. Seriously what audience member didn’t get the chills when they heard the little green guy say that?
Roy Batty – “I’ve seen things you people wouldn’t believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.”
I think Bladerunner is pretty underrated as far as characters go. You gotta love Rutger Hauer.
hey, what about Terminator’s “i’ll be back” ???
Re: Citizen Kane – it’s interesting taht one of the greatest movies of all time has such a huge plot hole. If Kane is the only person who heard his last word, then how is it that the reporter is trying to discover the meaning of it?
Thank you for putting in Bladerunner. Roy Batty’s death always struck a chord with me.
dude, what about “earn this” from saving private ryan
Apocalypse Now is actually based on “Heart of Darkness”.
Rutger Hauer added that last line, “All those moments will be lost like tears in rain. Time to die.”, himself.
So very awesome.
You forgot this.

I HAVE BEEN, AND SHALL ALWAYS BE, YOUR FRIEND.
*tears*
*ALWAYS SHALL
“Nobody’s perfect”
This line, uttered at the end of Some Like it Hot, is perhaps the greatest closing line to any movie ever.
This movie is screwball perfection and this line sums up the movie while being a perfect closing gag
how dare you not include the masterpiece that is Wicker Man?
I would think that Darth Vader’s Last words were more powerful, just not as iconic.
“I’ve got to save you” Luke
“You already have.”

Leo’s last couple sentences in Shutter Island.
“See you in hell, wear something nasty!” From the creepy villain from Warrior’s Way. Maybe not the greatest ever, but it was fun and disgusting at the same time.
fuck that..the greatest line in the end of a movie was clint eastwood in unforgiven…you better barry ned right or ill come back and kill all you suns of bitches…
“Jesus wept…” at the end of hellraiser
I think some of you guys are reading this wrong. It’s last words before the character dies, not last words of the movie.
