Redfall will be a New Open-World Vampire Hunting Adventure
Redfall is a new co-op vampire hunting game that is in the works by Arcane Studios. A mix between Zombies Ate My Neighbors and The Lost Boys, this new IP has the potential to be a sleeper hit. The story takes place within Redfall, Massachusetts where a scientific experiment went array. An army of vampires decided to take over the town and hold everyone hostage. Nobody is allowed in or out. A group of locals team up and go after the bloodsuckers before everyone is on the menu. To add a twist to this menace, there are also humans intertwined within the legion of vampires who are working with them. Follow, Layla Ellison, Remi de la Rosa, Devinder Crousley, and Jacob Boyer as they gear up and fight the creatures of the night before it’s too late. Even though dealing with vampires is bad enough, taking on humans can be even worse.
This new title will have both a single-player component and multi-player mode, of course. The root of joy with Redfall will be playing with your friends and slaying the pointy-toothed undead that’s lurking about. Much like in games like Back 4 Blood, each survivor will not only have distinct personalities but also varying abilities. Taking on the nosferatu is no easy feat and this game will make note of that. Chances are that there are going to be all variations of these creatures and they will offer a new challenge with each encounter. Don’t be fooled into thinking that this game is going to have a World War Z or Left 4 Dead format. This new game will actually be open-world, giving players almost unlimited opportunity to hunt down these night-dwelling parasites however they best see fit.
De-Tooth The Threat
Redfall is aiming to be an ambitious step within the survivor-horror genre. An open-world vampire hunting game is enough to have one’s mind spin when thinking about it. Based on what was shown in the announcement trailer, this game isn’t going for a gritty, realistic tone by any means. It has more of a playful, adventure motif to it that’s akin to Apex Legends or even Overwatch, for that matter. One would think that gameplay would be limited with a dynamic day and night cycle. Given that vampires are highly allergic to sunlight, gameplay during the day would be rather boring. Well, it turns out that the vampires used black magic to block the sun and the town of Redfall is under a perpetual cycle of twilight. Players are free to explore the town alone if they wish or they can jump in and play with friends at any time.
Let’s not forget that there will also be humans hunting down the survivors. These are cult members who worship the vampires and they’re geared up like mercenaries. So, slaying vampires is one factor, but there will also be shootouts in Redfall. Arcane studios excel in creating games that have a robust single-player campaign and Redfall will be their first foray into multi-player territory. However, this will be a first-person shooter which has been Arcane’s signature style for some time. With that said, there will be a slew of different weapons to play with, all that vary from the standard to the fantastical. Of course, there will also be all sorts of loadouts that players can experiment with to make their character fit them like a glove.
Shake n’ Stake
It was also hinted in the trailer that melee combat will also play a pivotal role during battles. Most notably, staking a vampire in the heart will cause them to disintegrate into dust. Whether or not there will be other melee weapons available is unknown at this time. However, it is a safe bet that there will be. Stealth will be an element of gameplay, which is something that Arcane Studios is well-versed at. The open-world map will provide plenty of avenues to explore to find new loot. Additionally, the abilities of the characters can be upgraded not to mention a deep selection of customization for every character. Scenarios can be approached in a myriad of different ways that range from the silent to the bombastic. Thusly, there will also be some kind of “choice system” in Redfall which entails that the way the players interact with the world will affect it.
The four main characters are wildly different from one another, offering a distinct gameplay experience. Devinder is an inventor who can make all sorts of gadgets and weaponry to squelch the blood-drinking brood hanging around Redfall. He will most likely be used for the most interesting weapon upgrades. Layla obtained telekinetic powers after the experiment in town, which also created the vampires, went sideways. Apparently, she can summon launch pads that will propel players to reach new heights. Additionally, she can also force away enemies by conjuring up a giant umbrella. Rosa is a combat engineer who specializes in tinkering with weaponry. She also invented a little droid called “cohort” which assists her and the team during battles. Lastly, Jacob is a sniper who garnered supernatural powers during his missions. He can cloak himself and hide while taking pop shots at enemies from afar. He also comes with a pet raven that can help scout the area to find things that players may deem useful.
The Rise at Redfall
The action-packed trailer for Redfall gave a good glimpse into this world. It is oozing with charm and the gameplay will apparently be a white-knuckled affair. The release date for this title has been delayed to sometime this summer. Needless to say, this game is looking like it to be a fun romp for anyone who is a fan of vampires and first-person shooters, in general. This game will be an Xbox exclusive and it will also be available for PC upon launch. Even though there is little information available for this game, there is just enough to get people excited. Redfall looks like a game that will be around for a long time.
