10 Things You Didn’t Know about Apex Legends
Apex Legends is a new shooter made by the same people who made Titanfall and Titanfall 2. Currently, it is free to play on PC, PS4, and XBox One, meaning that interested individuals might want to give it a chance. Here are 10 things that you may or may not have known about Apex Legends:
1. Battle Royale
Apex Legends is a battle royale shooter, which is a concept that should be familiar for people who have been paying any attention to modern shooters. However, for those who are not familiar, battle royale shooters see a large number of players being dropped into a battlefield where they will have to scavenge for tools and weapons with which to overcome one another. The battlefield shrinks in size, meaning that confrontation is inevitable.
2. Same Setting As Titanfall and Titanfall 2
Story-wise, Apex Legends is situated in the same setting as Titanfall and Titanfall 2. To be exact, it is set 30 years after the events of Titanfall 2 in a place called the Outlands where humans and robots compete in something called the Apex Games.
3. Not Titanfall 3
The Titanfall series has a very distinctive look and feel to it. As a result, it should be pretty clear within a very short period of time that Apex Legends isn’t supposed to be Titanfall 3. Due to this, interested individuals shouldn’t go in expecting it to be Titanfall 3 because that is a good way for them to end up disillusioned and disappointed.
4. Has Hero Characters
One of the ways that Apex Legends differs from other battle royale shooters is the fact that it uses both human and robot hero characters. In other words, its player characters don’t start out with the same footing. Instead, each choice will have their own special abilities to enable them to stand out in some manner.
5. Squad Based
It is unknown whether Apex Legends will enable other modes at some point in the future, but for the time being, it is squad-based in nature. To be exact, each round consists of three squads with each squad consisting of 20 players. As a result, for people who are more used to playing as a team of one, this is something that can make Apex Legends very different from its counterparts.
6. There Is a Jumpmaster
The jumping into the battlefield is still a thing in Apex Legends. However, interested individuals won’t be able to jump whenever and wherever they choose. Instead, their jump will be determined by the jumpmaster of their squad, thus ensuring that the full 20-player complement will be ready for coordinated action right from the start.
7. One Map
Currently, Apex Legends has a single battlefield called Kings Canyon. However, it should be noted that there is the potential for more battlefields to be added in the future, assuming that everything goes well anyways.
8. Can Revive Teammates
It will be possible for players in Apex Legends to revive their teammates by retrieving either their banner or data chip before bringing it to a green respawn point. Of course, there are some downsides to this process. For instance, the revived teammate will have none of their teams once they are back in the fighting. Furthermore, the green respawn locations are going to be watched with great interest for obvious reasons, meaning that those seeking to revive a teammate could very well wind up needing to be revived themselves.
9. There Is No Fall Damage
One of the nice things about Apex Legends is that there is no fall damage. As a result, players shouldn’t hesitate to experiment with terrain features to see what kinds of advantages they can squeeze out for themselves.
10. There Are Microtransactions
Since Apex Legends is free to play, it should come as no surprise to learn that it has microtransactions. After all, it needs some way to bring in enough money to keep itself going. With that said, Apex Legends’s microtransaction model is friendlier than that of a lot of other games, seeing as how it won’t have any impact on the player’s ability to win. Instead, the microtransactions will be most relevant for cosmetics, which is something that it shares with Fortnite.
