Movie Recommendation of the Week: Ghostbusters II

Many of you might be thinking “why in the hell would you ever recommend Ghostbusters II?”  And I’m going to tell you exactly why.   Because the movie was made in 1989 and given that it was still officially the 80s, comedies were still holding their own.   Another reason?  Because even though it doesn’t compare to the first it’s still a way better comedy movie than most of the crap out there.

Lastly?  If anything the interactions of Peter McNichol’s character Janosz (Yanosh) Poha are absolutely legendary.  Every time I see him see “then why are you came?” I laugh.  I don’t know why, I just do.  And of course there’s Bill Murray who’s just good in everything.

The premise of this one is pretty lame.  Some stupid barbaric ruler type Vigo the Carpathian comes back to the present through a painting and wants to rule the world.   A weird pink ooze is flowing through New York City that causes ghosts to rise above yet again.  The cause of the ooze?  Negative emotions from humans in the city.  Pretty lame.   Vigo must come back to earth as a baby and he chooses Dana Barrett’s child Oscar (Sigourney Weaver) to do it.

Blah Blah.  But trust me, it’s funny.   Trailer after the jump…

Again, not as good as the first but still funny.

  1. YES! YES! YES!

Saw this in theaters at 4 years old with my Dad, still remember it like it was yesterday. Directed him to the toy store with hand signals (because I couldn’t tell left from right yet lol) and got the Ghostbusters 2 coloring book.

BEST DAY EVER. Easily one of my favorite childhood memories with my Dad.

  2. for a long time in my life I had seen this without ever seeing the first one. I now recognize #1 was much better, but this one still holds a special place for me as it was THE Ghostbusters as I knew them (along with the cartoons).

    Also, Yanosh was great!
