“That Guy” Actor of the Week: Michael J. Pollard

Michael Pollard

As I watched Tango and Cash for the 600th time yesterday I realized that the character “Owen” (who could have his own article) needed a mention on this site.  But not only that awesome character, the actor that plays him.  That actor is none other than Michael J. Pollard.    Pollard first made an impact in film back in the 60s in Bonnie and Clyde.  He had been doing TV long before that.

But Pollard has gone on to make a great career playing weird looking, quirky characters that just seem so lovable.  You gotta love this guy.  In particlar I loved him in Scrooged when he kept calling Bill Murray “dick” and obviously in Tango and Cash as Owen, the nutty tech guy who invents great weapons.

I had no idea this guy was over 70.  He has over 100 credits to his name and clearly warrants a spot in this column.

Superboy!

This is incredible.   The singing is unreal.

  1. To me, this guy will always be the incredibly weird-looking kid in Star Trek’s ‘Miri’. I’m not even a major Trek fan, he just looked so odd that his visage was burned into my brain. He basically looked exactly how he does now at the age of about 25.

  2. Michael J. Pollard graduated from the actors studio and to me is a gifted character actor. I first saw him in an episode of andy griffith as barneys inept cousin Virgil who is so accident prone but who has an ability for wood carving..i have enjoyed everything hes been in since..he was up for an Oscar for best supporting actor in Bonnie and Clyde but was beat out by George Kennedey for his role in Cool Hand Luke..5 stars to Michael J. Pollard.
