Diablo IV – Explaining Helltides

Diablo IV offers new online events called ‘Helltides.’ Exploring the different regions of Sanctuary while on the internet gives this franchise a new flavor. The core gameplay mechanics are still intact. Now, this newest installment can quite literally go on forever. Not only can players team up to slay demons, but they can also attend all sorts of random events. These tend to spark up out of nowhere and only last for a certain period. Hence, they offer an assortment of epic goodies that cannot be found anywhere else.

In the case of Helltides, these events can last up to one hour. The hellscape of Sanctuary becomes even more hellish. Fire reigns from the sky, rivers turn red and demons become even deadlier. These events are nothing to take lightly. Therefore, it is best advised to team up with other players to get the most out of this situation. The sole goal of a Helltide event is to vanquish as many enemies as possible before time runs out. With all that said, this much more to these events than what meets the eye. There is much to decipher when starting out on Diablo IV. It will take a little bit of time to figure out how everything works.

Finding a Helltide event on a map is fairly easy to spot in Diablo IV. Just look at the map and locate an area that is outlined in red. This is where this event is happening. Now, the main thing to know about Helltides is that they only show up after the main campaign is completed. Otherwise known as the “End Game.” So, with this in mind, it is also worth noting that gamers must be playing in World Tier 3 while exploring the map. Thus, players will be notified whenever a Helltide starts. It will be up to them to open the map and locate exactly where it is.

What To Expect In Helltides

During Helltides, a slew of high-level enemies will spawn on a neverending basis. As mentioned before, this will only last up to one hour. So, the point is to survive this onslaught as long as possible. During the battle, players will be rewarded very unique loot that won’t be found anywhere else. Not to mention that they will garner mad XP. More often than not, players will be scoring oodles of Aberrant Cinders and Fiend Roses. These items can be used to unlock some rather high-end loot. As things currently are, players cannot gain Renown while attending Helltides or any other online events. That is only reserved for a certain action while exploring the map.

Notes On Aberrant Cinders

The thing to remember with Helltides is that they kind of have a rouge-lite feature to them. If a player is slain during the event, they will lose a good chunk of their Aberrant Cinders. Given that these things aren’t the easiest to obtain, it is a good idea to guard them as best as you can. During a Helltide situation, there will also be special chests strewn all over the area that will be holding designated loot. Look for an icon floating above them. They will be marked as either; weapons, armor, helmets, and the like. The only way to open these chests is by using the Aberrant Cinders. They can be a bit pricey and it is a good idea to open them up as soon as possible.

Tortured Gift of Mysteries

  • Costs 175 Aberrant Cinders.

Tortured Gift of Jewelry

  • Takes 125 Aberrant Cinders to open.

Tortured Gift of Protection

  • Uses 75 Aberrant Cinders to unlock.

Tortured Gift of Weaponry

  • You will need 150 Aberrant Cinders to unlock.

What Loot Is Available During Helltides?

Now, these chests won’t just grant one item, but multiple. It is pretty much a random occurrence. So, chances are that players will garner some repeated loot that they already have. However, there is also a good chance that a player might win something that they need. It is a gamble when opening one of the chests with an Aberrant Cinder. Also, let’s not forget that Fiend Roses are found aplenty during Helltides. They are used to upgrade different types of gear. A Fiend Rose can be extraordinarily hard to find while playing the campaign. They are only available at World Tier 3, too.

With that said, Helltides is probably the best way to land a sacred item. These are top-tier gear that offers some godly stats. Alternatively, players can take their chances and raid dungeons to find this item. However, to increase the chances of finding sacred items, attending Helltides is the way to go. Lastly, these events will fire up every two and a half to three hours. So, it is a good chance that a player will come across a Helltide Event during every play session. Needless to say, if someone stumbles across a Helltide by accident, they are kind of hard to miss. You will know when you are in one. One strategy they can do is to stock up on some Aberrant Cinder and Fiend Roses and leave the area. You will be able to keep them and save them for later.

Conclusion

With Seasons lined up for Diablo IV, there will only be more to do beyond Helltide Events. As things are now, these timed activities are the best way to rack up XP and unique loot for future adventures. So, during the end game, if you happen to come across a Helltide, go ahead and try it out. Maybe you will be lucky enough to survive the hour’s worth of slaughter. Diablo IV is now available for PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.
