10 Kick Ass Assassins in Movies

As I was watching The Professional the other day I realized that we hadn’t yet done an article on assassins we found awesome in movies.   That was somewhat surprising to me.

I think we may have done something on hit men.  We certainly have written about villains and other characters like that.   Hell we’ve certainly written about heroes.

But we haven’t hit on the exact topic of assassins.  So anyway, here are 10 that we love…..

Leon – The Professional

From start to finish Leon approaches everything with thorough thinking and complete dedication. He doesn’t make things up on the fly like  and it wasn’t until Natalie came along that he finally gained a weakness.  The hardest, coolest, coldest killer around, Leon is definitely one of the best.

The Skull (The Sunglasses Guy) –  Scarface

His real name is never given and he has no on-screen dialogue. He is apparently nicknamed by his gaunt face and he always wears large, circular, dark sunglasses, giving his face the appearance of a skull which is his assassin trademark.

Miguel Bain –  Assassins

Easily one of the boldest and craziest assassins in movies, Bain is young, dumb, and really really cocky.  What separates him from the pack here is that he’s not at all afraid to die.

Ray Quick – The Specialist

Quick is an expert bomb maker.   No one ever knows when he leaves a trace.  And because of that, somehow, he’s found.

Robert Rath – Assassins

I can’t believe that Sylvester Stallone is on here twice but can you really argue?  Assassins is a highly underrated movie.

  1. How about the little girl in Kick Ass? I think her name is just Hit Girl in the movie and she is played by Chloe Grace Moretz. The scene where she goes in to save her dad is one of the most badass scenes I’ve witnessed in a movie.

  2. ANTON CHIGURH WOULD POP ANY OF THE GUYS YOU LISTED WITH A CATTLE GUN, FRIENDO. AND SCARAMANGA (THE MAN WITH THE GOLDEN GUN) IS AWESOME, JUST BY VIRTUE OF BEING PLAYED BY CHRISTOPHER LEE!

  3. I agree with Demtor on the unfortunate lack of Chow Yun Fat; I also question your decision of including the American remake (Point of no Return) of La Femme Nikita instead of the original.

  4. The fact that you referenced Assassins and Stallone twice really just a complete lack of good movie/acting taste and general laziness.

This blog/site used to be decent but lately it’s just gotten lazy.

  5. Kinda have to agree with “thelaughingman” the articles have just subpar as of late, I still visit the site but have noticed that I really don’t care for content as much…oh well.

Anyways I was going to mention Lisbeth Salander from “the girl with the dragon tattoo” although not really an assassin she’s still, IMO, beats out some of the people on this list.

  6. @j rocco xlr

but not an Assassin so kind of pointless to bring up.

NattyB is allowed his picks. It’s not like he was saying that these 10 are objectively the best. So, fair enough, suggest other picks but some of the criticisms are bullshit.

  7. Assassins is one of the worst movies ever, and regardles sof how good of an assassin Banderas was (Stallone killed him, so he wasn’t that great) that movie should be stricken from all lists that celebrate quality.

  8. Suggestions rather than criticism?

Mel Gibson’s character in Payback. Chow Yun Fat in The Killer, Hanna, Ichi the Killer, Ghost Dog, Machete, Geena Davis in The Long Kiss Goodnight…. how’s that for some suggestions?

Any of those are greater than Stallone and better movies that Assassins.

  9. Sorter (Mark Strong) in Revolver
Anton Chigurh (Javier Bardem) In No Country For Old Men
The Jackal (Edward Fox) in The Day of the Jackal

Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson in In Bruges

The two Russian guys in Rocknrolla. Actually, strike everybody but those guys. And Boris the Blade in Snatch. Pretty much any time Guy Ritchie imagines a Russian person that imaginary person is more bad ass than anybody on your list.

  10. First thought of Chiun in Remo Williams:The Adventure Begins.

But Tamisaburo Wakayama’s portrayal of Itto Ogami, The Shogun Assassin, The Lone Wolf and Cub, has my vote for the baddest Assassin in Film.

  11. What? The fact that you have Bridget Fonda from Point of No Return instead of Anne Parillaud from Nikita and no Cantonese films makes me think you are only watching American films. And even so… Assassins not once but twice? Just cause it’s named Assassins doesn’t mean their the best in movies. How about…

As mentioned The Jackel, Chigurh, any Chow Yun Fat roles, and old school Mechanic. But I also want to throw out these peeps

    Jason Bourne himself
    Jack from The American
    T-800 from Terminator
    Cicci from the Godfather

  12. Bridget Fonda instead of Anne Parillaud, wtf!!

Point of no return is almost a 100% copy of La femme Nikita as stated above by Peter

and no Chow Yun Fat in a movie called ” the Killer”

    fail

  13. I did like Clive in the Bourne Identity, but he wasn’t really kick-ass was he? He managed to snipe one guy in the whole film, and frankly, got his world rocked by Bourne.

Chigurh probably deserves a spot as well, though nice job of thinking of Leon first and foremost. Also, thanks for not adding any of the characters from Wanted.

  14. Jane Fonda … really? The american version of Luc Besson’s Nikita … REALLY???

Anne Parillaud’s performance was waaaaay better than Fonda’s 🙂

  15. It was Bridget, not Jane Fonda. Unless Barbarella was an assassin. And it could just be the character not the actress who portrayed her he was referring to.

I do have to go with Chow Yun Fat in the Killer, though.

And no Castor Troy from Face/Off?

James Bond himself should be on the list though. Half his job is to actually kill people.

I don’t discuss the Bourne films, being a fan of the novels the movies just piss me off.

  16. Methinks Nattyb just looked over at his DVD shelf and picked titles/characters at random…. or he just has lousy taste in movies… or both.

  17. It seems there some in here that think they could do a better job. I say give them a chance…pick a topic and choose the 10, 15, 20 best, oh hell just put all of ’em in there, that way no one can criticize you for not choosing the best. Sheesh.
