You Have Lost 400 Pounds of Meat, Two Oxen and an Axel

I’m not exactly sure where this is from, but if I had to guess I’d say Robot Chicken from the looks of it.

This short GIF sums up about 50% of my gaming childhood, which was almost entirely based around playing Oregon Trail in school. Those damn rivers claimed more of my supplies and my oxen than anything else in the game, and it seemed like there was  no safe way to get across. Really? I lost all my rifles and bullets trying to cross a river that’s three feet deep. OH COME ON!

This may have been the worst  moment of the game, but anyone remember the best moment? “You have spotted a buffalo stampede,” followed shortly by “You have killed 5,640 pounds of meet but were only able to carry 80 back to the wagon.”

  1. This is just a collection of all of the animations from the Oregon Trail remake for the Mac that came out in like 94-95.

Robot Chicken would have a bit more craziness involved.

  2. How funny that one was allowed to shoot as much meat as one had bullets and time, but that the game programers weren’t like, “You’ve shot as much meat as you can carry, so you stop shooting because you’re not a jerk.”

  3. In school we never had long enough times to beat it on normal speed, plus most people died pretty quick, so one day I sat down, threw it up to the fastest, most dangerous travel speed, and, well, made it to Oregon just fine… My buddy got bit by a rattle snake once, but got better…
