Why Look, Someone’s Cosplaying my Least Favorite Dragon Age Character Ever

I’ve hated few games the way I hated Dragon Age: Origins, which I guess you could say was the “Fable 3” of last year for me. It was a game I was not only looking forward to, as it was from the studio who brought me one of my favorite titles, Mass Effect, but I actually hated it so much I quit, which I NEVER do. I hear it was better for the PC, but I still maintain the console version was almost unplayable.

Among the plethora of annoying characters in the game, one stood out. The witch Morrigan, who yes, had the most useful powers in the game, and the propensity to constantly not wear a shirt, but talking to her?  Ugh. In an effort to get her to one of the game’s PG-13 sex scenes, I tried every path of conversation, listening to 20 minute rants about her controlling mother, only to end the convo with a “Morrigan disproves” notification.

But anyway, that doesn’t mean I can’t appreciate some good cosplay of the beoytch, and this is the best attempt I’ve seen at her so far. It’s from a girl named Stravalon, and there are a few more shots of her in costume below. It’s not perfect, but it’s a damn good effort nonetheless.

  1. Dude, you should totally give this game another try, on a pc (or mac, via bootcamp ftw!). Except about Starcraft and fps and small other things, the things i like the most, so do you, which makes this blog sooo much more awesome. My point is I LOVED this game with a big passion. Hated it at first (i could not have imagined those dialogs could really impact the way the world around me would change. not only the world, but the characters. Also, following the philosophy that, if i was going to spend hours looking at a char, it might as well be a woman. But i soon created a new game and male char as soon as the marriage talking began xD), but in the end, after so much bonding with the other characters, all that “we” had gone through, all the good we did and fun we enjoyed, i actually was afraid of playing the DLCs. The experience had been so rich, that i was afraid it would not live to my expectations. Maybe you wont like this game as much as i did, but still, this game IS worth playing. Really, really worth it. I can’t imagine how you can play this in a console… but in a pc, it’s amazing. The graphics were good, the music (really like the opening song, its really great), the gameplay (really like the pause and go, i hate turn based games) and the story was well done (especially if you consider that you had so many possibilities). Please give this game the attention it deserves, and write a post, i like those 😛

PS: my fav char was Morrigan, not in the beginning, but i grew very fond of her. But i admit i saved a couple of times before talking to her, just in case. i’m not proud of some things i said, but i always said love was the way! (had to buy a lot of gifts to make up for such words xP)

PSS: This being my first post here, I’m gonna take this chance to express my gratitude to you for doing and updating new content to this website. I check it everyday religiously.

  2. Dude, I’m with ya on this one. That game had me so pumped up before it’s release that the letdown upon playing it was immense; almost unbearable. I cut my losses after about 15-20 hours into the game and returned it.

And yeah, Morrigan was a biznatch.

  3. Playing this on console was your mistake.

Yeah Morrigan is a bitch, that’s kind of the point. She actually grows on you and as a character as you play.

You really should give this another shot on PC.

  4. I would definitely give it a go on PC if you see it going for cheap. When I got it, I had just moved into a new flat, with no internet, tv, or flatmates yet, and started playing through all the RPGs I missed from the last few years.

DAO stood out from the bunch as being one of my favourites. My girlfriend later got it for the 360, and oh my, I could not believe how differently the game played. The combat pause and tactical play on the PC disappeared in favour of button mashing and third person action on the 360. They are quite different beasts.

One thing I will say about the game though is that I never bonded with any of the characters. I played as a male char (and am myself), and I didn’t ever feel any kind of attachment to, well, anybody. Except possibly Wynne.

This was in stark contrast to ME2 (currently my favourite game of all time, alongside The Witcher), in which Garrus, Thane, and of course the lovely Miranda genuinely felt like people I would like.

  5. They shouldn’t have even bothered with a console release, but thats where most of the moolah is.

I say try it out on PC, not only will it look better but it will play correctly 😉
If the deal breaker really is the story and characters though, a gameplay shift may not make that big of a difference, so I guess really look at why you don’t like it, and then decide

I thought Morrigan was a good character (for a bioware character) She was shrewish, but clearly had the most interesting things going on. It’s too bad they completely abandoned all the DA:O stories through crappy DLC, Otherwise I imagine her character would become quite a bit more interesting.
Alistair was another awesome character, If not the best in the game (imo)

DA2 is sadly going to be far more casualised, which makes me sad. My guess is the console players will like it far more than the old control style, and the PC players will have to conform to this in some serious ways (no more top-down camera play-style for example) This is a shame, as the game was supposed to be a successor to the Baldur’s Gate series, and the second almost steps away from that entirely.

    DA:O screws the console players
DA2 will screw the PC players

In conclusion, whoever is directing this franchise must be drunk at the wheel.

  6. I was going to play this game on PC but I didn’t have the money for an up grade, so I rented it through gamefly for my xbox 360. I still had a lot of fun with this game.

I m not one of those that say you should give it another try. Maybe it’s just not your type of game. For example, I never play JRPGs just because I hate turn base combat.

What I would say though is that you will probably enjoy Dragon Age 2 alot more, Bioware made it more like mass effect in this next installment.

  7. You guys are the biggest assholes ever. I’ve only just started playing DAO after like a year, I quit in the same time period as you did but I was just lazy/I sucked hard. Now I’ve learnt how to download illegally, I’ve downloaded the game and I was enjoying it, until I read your review and realized how shit it was, why are you right about everything though? Your opinion is your own whoever you are, and it’s not biased unless you’re shit at the games, which you all usually are.
This happened with Fable 3 recently, I considered it to be possibly the greatest game I’ve ever played, then after about 1 hour away from completing it, I read your review and realized, I’ve wasted 15 hours with these cloned fuckers in Albion, my God that fucking dog is retarded, I’ve sold it now, so I guess you earnt me £33.
I love you all, I hope you choke to death on your own superiority.

  8. I agree with you. I had a hateon for DA, after playing it at a friends house, and was glad I never bought it.

Want to try a decent game? Wait out for Two Worlds II in January. The first one wasn’t great, mind you, but this new one is frikkin awesome (Playing the Euro release on my PC, Intl release in new year)
