The 20 Strongest Devil Fruits in One Piece
Devil Fruits are one of the most iconic elements of One Piece. For those who are unfamiliar, they are strange-looking fruits that give superpowers to those who take a bite out of them, which is amusing because most characters believe that they have to eat the whole thing even though these fruits taste awful.
Each Devil Fruit is connected to a particular set of superpowers, so it is normal for these fruits to be named for these superpowers. In exchange, those who eat these fruits become vulnerable to seawater, which is a huge issue when the series is centered on pirates.
In any case, it should come as no surprise to learn that some Devil Fruits are seen as being stronger than others, meaning that some Devil Fruits are more coveted than others.
20. Hobby-Hobby Fruit
There are some very nasty Devil Fruits out there. To name an example, consider the Hobby-Hobby Fruit, which can turn victims into toys, erase other people’s memories of those victims, and then force a single contract upon those victims. It has its weaknesses, with an excellent example being how it can’t be used unless the user makes contact with their hand. Still, the Hobby-Hobby Fruit is the stuff of nightmares.
19. Bird-Bird Fruit, Model: Phoenix
Mythical Zoan-type Devil Fruits get a lot of hype for very good reasons. The Bird-Bird Fruit, Model: Phoenix isn’t the most offense-oriented Devil Fruit in One Piece. Still, it isn’t hard to see why it is useful. Besides the usual shapechanging, the Bird-Bird Fruit, Model: Phoenix comes with blue flames that can hurt as well as heal. The user isn’t immortal. Still, they can soak up a lot of damage, which makes sense when their Devil Fruit is based on a bird said to rise again from its own ashes.
18. Snake-Snake Fruit, Model: Yamata-no-Orochi
The Yamata no Orochi was a big deal in Japan mythology. Supposedly, it was powerful enough that the god Susano-o had to trick it into getting drunk before chopping off its eight heads rather than risk a face-to-face confrontation. After which, he recovered the Kusanagi no Tsurugi from its corpse, thus enabling him to bribe his way back into his sister Amaterasu’s good graces. The Snake-Snake Fruit, Model: Yamata-no-Orochi doesn’t seem to be capable of living up to that hype. Still, it allows its user to survive decapitation up to seven times, which is pretty important.
17. Dog-Dog Fruit, Model: Okuchi-no-Makami
This is another Mythical Zoan-type Devil Fruit based on Japanese mythology. In its case, it is another amusing example of how Yamato is a reference to Yamato Takeru. The Dog-Dog Fruit, Model: Okuchi-no-Makami is like its counterparts in that it provides a huge physical boost to its user. On top of that, it comes with cold-themed powers, which can be used for both offense and defense.
16. Sand-Sand Fruit
The Sand-Sand Fruit is an excellent example of what a well-motivated individual with a Logia-type Devil Fruit can do. Unsurprisingly, it was very nasty, particularly since Crocodile was receiving a power boost from using it in a very arid country. Other than the expected sand and sand-related attacks, the Sand-Sand Fruit also showed the ability to dehydrate targets, which was every bit as nasty as it sounded. Still, while this is a powerful Logia-type Devil Fruit, there are even more powerful ones that have been shown in the series.
15. String-String Fruit
There can be no doubt about the power of the String-String Fruit. After all, Donquixote Doflamingo used it to do some absolutely ridiculous things. For example, he could use his strings to control other people.
Similarly, he could fly so long as he had clouds that he could attach his strings to. Having said that, the String-String Fruit raises the question of just how much the user should account for when it comes to evaluating the strength of these things. It doesn’t seem like one of those Devil Fruits that would have been very strong from the start.
Instead, the String-String Fruit seems like one of those Devil Fruits that became more and more terrifying as Doflamingo became more and more skilled in its use, particularly since he is said to have awoken it. As such, one can’t help but wonder whether even seemingly weak Devil Fruits are packed with potential waiting for the right person to bring it out.
14. Shadow-Shadow Fruit
Shadows have a great deal of significance in a number of cultures. To name an example, it played an important role in the ancient Egyptian understanding of the soul. The Shadow-Shadow Fruit definitely leans into this kind of thing. After all, it enables its user to create zombies by stealing shadows before planting them in corpses, thus making it an enormous threat in large-scale battles. On top of that, while it isn’t a Logia-type Devil Fruit, the Shadow-Shadow Fruit does let its user turn their shadow into a weapon. Something that can be empowered using stolen shadows.
13. Flame-Flame Fruit
The ability to turn into fire is a powerful one. This is particularly true in a setting in which most people are still traveling via wooden ships. Having said that, while the Flame-Flame Fruit offers the usual package of Logia-type Devil Fruit benefits, it has a hard counter in the Mag-Mag Fruit. Supposedly, this is because the latter burns hotter than what it can manage.
12. Paw-Paw Fruit
Bartholomew Kuma’s Paw-Paw Fruit enables him to repel things. That might not sound very impressive. However, it is important to note that he has enough power to make his targets fly over vast geographical distances as well as enough control that his targets will land perfectly safely so long as he wants them to. On top of that, the Paw-Paw Fruit can be used for stranger things as well, seeing as how Kuma can repel the pain and fatigue out of people.
11. Soul-Soul Fruit
The Soul-Soul Fruit is more than a bit reminiscent of the Shadow-Shadow Fruit. After all, it can take people’s souls before using that to create minions. Generally speaking, the Soul-Soul Fruit seems much stronger. However, it does have some detrimental quirks as well. For example, the minions that it creates can be hurt even when they are made out of substances that shouldn’t be susceptible to the things that hurt them.
Similarly, those minions are living beings in their own right, so they can be quite a bit more independent than what the user might like. Still, the Soul-Soul Fruit is very powerful, which makes it fitting to be the Devil Fruit of one of the Four Emperors.
10. Rumble-Rumble Fruit
The Rumble-Rumble Fruit is another Logia-type Devil Fruit. Moreover, it is one of the ones with a reputation for invincibility, which makes sense because its element is electricity. Thanks to that, the user of the Rumble-Rumble Fruit is guaranteed to hit hard, move fast, and be hard to hurt. Amusingly, this Devil Fruit has a hard counter in the form of the Gum-Gum Fruit. Otherwise, it is every bit as terrifying as what its reputation would make one believe.
9. Human-Human Fruit, Model: Buddha
Daibutsu is a Japanese term referring to giant statues of the Buddha. As such, the Human-Human Fruit, Model: Buddha is a decent though still somewhat misleading translation.
After all, it doesn’t enable its user to turn into a Buddha so much as a giant golden Buddha. Unfortunately, it isn’t 100 percent clear what this Devil Fruit is capable of, seeing as how we have seen it in action just a single time. Still, it seems safe to say that the Human-Human Fruit, Model: Buddha is very powerful, though some of that is presumably Sengoku being Sengoku. Suffice to say that people don’t reach the rank of fleet admiral without there being very good reasons for that.
8. Press-Press Fruit
Issho is notable for a number of things. For instance, he is one of the nicer Admirals. Nonetheless, Issho takes things to an extreme, as shown by how he blinded himself in reaction to the evil that he has seen over the course of his life. On top of that, he is known for dropping meteors. Something made possible by the power of the Press-Press Fruit. Even worse, Issho is by no means limited to using the Devil Fruit’s gravity control in such a blatant manner.
7. Fish-Fish Fruit, Model: Azure Dragon
Dragons tend to be narrative powerhouses. The kind of thing that needs to be resolved by gods and heroes. As East Asian dragons go, the Azure Dragon of the East is a notable one because it is one of the Four Symbols, though in truth, it doesn’t have a lot of stories attached to it. Regardless, this means that it makes sense for the Devil Fruit based upon it to be a powerful one as well. It is interesting to note that its elemental powers aren’t quite what one might expect based on its namesake. The Azure Dragon of the East is associated with wood. Meanwhile, the Devil Fruit seems to be much more versatile, as shown by Kaidou’s use of fire, wind, and lightning.
6. Chilly-Chilly Fruit
Admirals and ex-admirals tend to have very powerful Devil Fruits. To name an example, consider Kuzan’s Chilly-Chilly Fruit, which lets him turn into a Freezing Human. It isn’t quite as good as most Logia-type Devil Fruits when it comes to avoiding attacks. In exchange, it is one of the few Devil Fruits that give their users a way to counter water, seeing as how its user can just freeze it. Some people have speculated about the Chilly-Chilly Fruit being a potential counter to the Mag-Mag Fruit. If so, that certainly isn’t an insurmountable advantage, seeing as how Kuzan lost to Sakazuki during the time skip.
5. Mag-Mag Fruit
The Mag-Mag Fruit was eaten by Sakazuki, who might be better-known to some interested individuals under his previous code-name Akainu. It is the Logia-type Devil Fruit associated with magma. Thanks to that, it provides its user with both great offensive capabilities and great defensive capabilities, particularly since a weakness has never been revealed for it. If anything, the Mag-Mag Fruit is said to be exceptionally strong, not least because of its incredible attack power.
4. Tremor-Tremor Fruit
This was Whitebeard’s Devil Fruit, which has since become Blackbeard’s Devil Fruit through unknown means. It is said to be one of the most powerful Devil Fruits in One Piece because its shockwaves can do incredible amounts of damage over a very wide area. Something that is particularly notable because other high-end Devil Fruits aren’t exactly slouches in this regard. In any case, if the Tremor-Tremor Fruit has one weakness, it is that it is indiscriminate in its effects. As a result, a user who cares about their allies need to fight at some distance from them lest their attacks affect their allies as well.
3. Glint-Glint Fruit
The Glint-Glint Fruit should be one of the most powerful Logia-type Devil Fruit. After all, its element is light, with the result that its user is supposed to be capable of moving at lightspeed. In practice, the Glint-Glint Fruit doesn’t seem to be capable of living up to that reputation. Even so, it is formidable.
2. Dark-Dark Fruit
Much remains unclear about the Dark-Dark Fruit. Even so, it seems safe to say that it is one of the most powerful Logia-type Devil Fruits in One Piece. In part, this is because of its element, which is quite a bit nastier than it sounds because darkness control apparently comes packaged with gravity control.
However, it should also be mentioned that Blackbeard has used the Dark-Dark Fruit to cancel the powers of other Devil Fruit users. It does seem to have a significant drawback in that its user is more vulnerable to incoming attacks than other Logia-type Devil Fruit users. Apparently, while the darkness can absorb incoming attacks, it can’t just let incoming attacks pass through it.
1. Gum-Gum Fruit
Strictly speaking, the Gum-Gum Fruit is a huge unknown at the moment. This is because it turned out that the Gum-Gum Fruit isn’t the Gum-Gum Fruit. Instead, it is the Human-Human Fruit, Model: Nika. Mythical Zoan-type Devil Fruits are always considered to be powerful for very good reasons. Unfortunately, it is difficult to say exactly how powerful this one will prove to be in the long run.
After all, Nika isn’t a figure from real world mythology but rather a sun god from One Piece mythology that is said to be connected to the liberation of slaves. Still, it seems safe to say that the Human-Human Fruit, Model: Nika will prove to be world-shaking in one way or another. Anything that can shake the senior leadership of the World Government the way that it does is pretty much guaranteed to do so.
