Must See Movie Recommendation of the Week: Stir Crazy
Instead of serving up a “Crappy Movie” recommendation of the week, this week I decided to put up a movie that is just plain awesome. So while I still have a library of non quality but awesome movies to recommend, I’ll throw in the occasional “you probably haven’t seen this but have to” movie to share.
And this week we’re talking about Stir Crazy. Reason I think most of you haven’t seen this is that you’re just too young. Of all the Richard Pryor and Gene Wilder comedies this one is by far my favorite. Here’s a quick synopsis provided by IMDB.
Skip and Harry are framed for a bank robbery and end up in a western prison. The two eastern boys are having difficulty adjusting to the new life until the warden finds that Skip has a natural tallent for riding broncos with the inter-prison rodeo coming up.
What that description doesn’t tell you is how incredibly funny this movie is. Both Wilder and Prior are hilarious. The screenplay is tops and the movie was directed by Sidney Poitier. If you’re into witty humor and a mix of uptown NYC banter and redneck tendencies you’re going to love this flick.
Also, as an added bonus. Erland Van Lidth plays Grossberger (Van Lidth is the opera guy in Running Man).
Check out the trailer .
This trailer sucks and does the movie no justice.
You have no idea how excited I was to see Stir Crazy listed as a recommendation on this site! That is one of my favorite movies, and it is absolutely one of the funniest films ever.
Loved this post. Although My personal favorite of the Richard Pryor/Gene Wilder movies has always been “See No Evil, Hear No Evil”.
The “Get Bad” scene alone is worth watching this movie for. Also my favorite movie of this duo. Great pick!
I’m 28, not much younger than you and I’ve saw this movie.
The only reason many people will not have saw the film is because they are too used to a diet of Adam Sandler and Will Ferrell movies to actively seek out new, older and infinitely better comedies.
Now, if you’ll just plug Blazing Saddles to get a few more people watching I’ll be a happy man.
