Movie Recommendation of the Week: Dutch

I happen to be a huge fan of Ed O’Neill so it’s no surprise that I’m putting Dutch as a movie recommendation.   Actually Dutch happens to be one of if not my favorite holiday movies of all time.   For those who haven’t seen the movie or need a refresher here’s a quick synopsis of the film

To get to know his girlfriend’s son, a man volunteers to pick him up from a prep school….only to learn that her son’s not the nicest kid in the world.  Simple right?  The son, played by Ethan Embry is a true brat and takes Dutch Dooley (Ed O’Neill) for a crazy cross road adventure trying to get home to see mom (played by JoBeth Williams).

Along the way, the two find it tough but eventually bond in that father/son way that you’re hoping they do.   But the stuff they get into and the crap they pull on each other is both funny, immature as well as so appropriate for the film.

For a feel good laugh and to see Ed O’Neill at his best I think you should see Dutch.  Check out the trailer after the jump….

It’s about as close to the character Ed O’Neill plays on Modern Family as you’re gonna see.

  1. here’s something to blow your mind:
remember the tv show L.A. Dragnet (2003–2004)
Ed O’Neill and Ethan Embry first starred together in the film Dutch when Embry was only 13 years old.
O’Neill played the grizzled Det. Joe Friday, and Embry was his rookie partner.
