15 Children’s Monster Drawings Painted Realistically
I’m not sure if any of you have ever heard of Dave Devries, but if you haven’t, he’s an exceptionally creative artist. His site, The Monster Engine, is a look at a child’s imagination as it pertains to monsters. And what Dave does with those monsters is quite fascinating actually. He describes it as this…
The process is simple. I project a child’s drawing with an opaque projector, faithfully tracing each line. Applying a combination of logic and instinct, I then paint the image as realistically as I can. My medium is mixed—primarily acrylic, airbrush, and colored pencil.
The results wind up being pretty bizarre but I have to say, it’s kind of cool to see what your doodles as a kid would look like in the real world. I’ve selected 15 pictures that I think are awesome.
Enjoy
These are awesome.

I love the big big big big moth moth mmmoth!
these are amazing!!
These looks like drawings from the Scary Stories book series.
Last one is my favorite.
I should send him some of my old grade school notebooks. I got bored and doodled a lot. The thing is, I had no artistic talent. He would be painting up a bunch of misshapen Ninja Turtles, too.

I had the exact same thought – would love to see him go to work on some of my old monsters.

Wow
I laughed when I saw this link again! People keep forwarding it to me and our office staff …
It’s great how kids art is getting some real recognition. Loved these images…Kids from different nationalities have a very different approach to monsters and drawing. It’s fascinating!!! A lot of commonality too…We work with several charities internationally helping kids in hospitals. When I founded my company the idea was to help kids understanding the power of: imagination, drawing, planning and executing. I also wanted to help my son’s fear of monsters ..now I spent hours looking at these wonderful creations…the kids reaction when presented with a stuffed version of their drawings is priceless…we tend to make ours sort of cute though.
I don’t like plugs…no real name or contact…
cheers keep drawing!!!
