Madison’s Hard Goodbye

At least for the foreseeable future, this will be the last post I write for Unreality.  Along with Paul and Natty, I’ve been writing for this site for nearly two years and have been fortunate enough to watch it grow and develop over that time.  However, there are other endeavors I want to pursue, and as my responsibility at my “real” job as an attorney continues to increase seemingly every day, it’s time for me to leave Unreality.  Like I mentioned, the site has indeed developed quite a bit, and I think it’s going to continue to improve as time goes on.

I’ll still likely visit Unreality every day, as I truly do enjoy the material that gets posted.  Part of what made writing for Unreality so much fun was simply the content itself – we’ve carved out a nice little niche of geek culture here in our corner of the Internet, and day after day I’m impressed with the things my colleagues find and write about.  Natty’s done an incredible job of starting this site from scratch and building it up to the point where we have a consistently wide audience.  I still remember the lunch we had at Burger Heaven when he pitched me the idea for this site and asked me to write.  I believe that Paul is a talented and honest writer with whom many readers are able to connect, and I’m confident that his writing is going to take him places far more prestigious than just a few Internet blogs.  I’m pretty sure that Natty’s going to bring in someone to replace me – and I’m sure he’ll be good – but regardless, Unreality will remain a great, fun site with Nat and Paul staying on board.

Of course, what made Unreality so fulfilling, for me at least, was the constant interaction with our enthusiastic readers.  As the site grew, I never felt as though I was pouring my thoughts and opinions into a vacuum.  Instead, you guys have always participated in whatever it is we’re posting, be it a list of some sort, a Pokemon video, or a movie review.  After all, if it wasn’t for you guys, I would have never gotten into Buffy the Vampire Slayer, I would have never seen Primer, and virtually all of my lists would have remained incomplete.  I thank all of you for that.

And so, it’s going to take some time getting used to seeing something cool and not automatically thinking of a way to post it on Unreality, and that’s bittersweet in a way.  I can’t speak for Nat and Paul, but I take pride in the fact that for two years, we’ve never missed a scheduled post.  Not once.  I assure you, writing the posts isn’t that difficult – when something’s cool, it pretty much writes itself – but thinking of ideas for posts and searching the Internet for hours for cool things to post does wear on you.  It’s gotten to the point where it’s taking up too much of my time – time I desperately need to devote to my job as a lawyer and a couple of projects I’ve been working on, too.

Again, I’ll be visiting the site just about every day, and I’m sure I’ll probably comment from time to time.  But in the meantime, I’m done writing articles for Unreality, a site that I know will continue to entertain.

Thanks for reading.

  1. You will be dearly missed. I too wish you the best of luck with all of your future endeavors, and I thank for you the entertainment you’ve provided over the past couple of years.

    I drink to thee.

  2. Ah that’s a bummer, but totally understandable. I will miss your articles…you’re a great writer and I agreed with you most of the time, so you have pretty good taste in TV shows and movies. And unlike many people who comment, I never name-called…some people need to lighten up! Best of luck!!

  3. By far my first time posting here, just to thank you and your contributions to Unreality. Thanks for helping make Unreality one of my #1 sites that I visit every weekday haha.

You will be missed good sir!

  4. Dude, thank you for the entertaining material. This site is my #1 visited site and it get’s me through the workday. And, in turn, you were a good portion of what kept me sane through the week.

Best of luck to you. I know being an attorney probably doesn’t leave you with a lot of free time, but you should still read and post in the comments.

    Thanks for everything.

    Cheers!

  5. I’m not gonna lie, I’m a Paul guy (no rhyme intended). But it’s really sad to see any part of unreality die and it’ll be weird for a while without your voice. Best wishes with your real job (BTW, the Community episode tonight is about evil lawyers! It’s such a great show, you really should try it)

  6. Damn, I can’t believe I missed this post. Good luck on your further travels, really enjoyed your articles.

Thx to you I won several “name te most disturbing movie” discussions. Is it wierd that I am anxiously awaiting the “second sequence”?
