For newbies to the game, the concept of the god roll can be confusing. In Destiny 2, god rolls are applied to weapons only. The god roll means that the weapon of choice has the best perks, which in turn make it the best it can be, for either Player versus Player (PvP) or Player versus Environment (PvE). The Austringer hand cannon is a great weapon, but is only considered to be a top tier weapon due to the god roll.

So now that you know that the Austringer is a powerful hand cannon found in the Menagerie, and a god roll transforms this weapon to one of ‘godlike’ power, it’s time to put it all together. In order to do this, know that your Chalice requires updating. For the Austringer god roll, you need the green Rune of Desire, no other rune will do. Once obtained, you’ll place it into the top slot in your Chalice of Opulence

Next, take a any red rune and place it into the slot on the left of the Chalice, it’s ok if the right slot is empty for now, as its purpose is to decide which Masterwork bonus will be applied. For instance, gamer Baz uses a green rune for the range Masterwork bonus. While any red rune in the left slot will do, nothing works unless you have the green Rune of desire, so lets take a quick glimpse on how you can get this rune To get your Rune of Desire you can:

  • Finish weekly bounties
  • Visit the Nessus Barge and open chests
  • Utilizing consumables reward you with runes
  • Buying a Runefinder from Werner 99-40

Once you’ve updated your Chalice of Opulence with the correct runes, it’s time to do a Menagerie play through. At the end of the run you’ll find a chest. Opening the check drops your fully curated Austringer god roll. For added insight, the site Shacknews.com suggests that for PvP gameplay, the two best perks are Eye of the Storm and Rangefinder. These give your Austringer increased range and precision in hits. Concerning the Austringers barrel and mag setup, they suggest any perk that enhances range, such as Hammer-forged rifling and accurized rounds. When it comes to players who are up against their environment, or PvE, there’s no correct formula, just personal preference.

Final Thoughts

The Austringer hand cannon is quite a beauty. She’s swift, sleek with excellent handling. More than a few players have noticed that she seems to be an extension of the prized Eyasluna hand cannon from days past. if you look at the Austringer’s specs, you see she’s got an 140 rpm which doesn’t make it the fastest hand cannon in Destiny 2, but as you can see from our article, it’s arguably one of the easiest for the player to farm. Simply unlock the Menagerie, update your Chalice of Opulence with the Rune of Desire, and any red rune. Then do a Menagerie run, which gains you access to a chest, which when opened, grants you access to the Austringer.
