Fort Solis is a Fresh Innovative Cosmic Thriller from a New Studio
Fort Solis is a new third-person cosmic horror survival game that’s being developed by Fallen Leaf Studio. Generally, this game appears to be a Dead Space knock-off, but that will be doing it a disservice. There are some interesting features implemented in this title that will give it its own soul. The story is about an engineer named Jack Leery, who is set to investigate a situation on Fort Solis. Which, by the way, is stationed on the far side of Mars. Naturally, there are some hidden horrors lurking in the facility, something that Leery would have never expected. Survive the night, escape the structure and get to the bottom of the problem before it’s too late. This game is still early in development, but there are some artwork and a trailer now available to whet gamers’ appetite. Furthermore, this will be a single-player experience which is a breath of fresh air among all the live-service and PvP games out there.
Given that Fort Solis will be a story-driven title, the way that the narrative will be told is going to be through something quite innovative. Instead of the cliche cut scenes that have plagued games since the 90s, there is going to be “key sequence gameplay.” instead. What this means is that scenes will unfold through actual gameplay. The moments of action can be fully interacted with which, in turn, can have consequences on the story. Hence, this game is aiming to be a fully interactive cinematic experience, in some ways. Thus, this game will also have voice talent that is found in Red Dead Redemption 2 and The Last of Us. The thing is that this game isn’t really on gamers’ radar and there appears to be something special being formed. Ultimately, Fort Solis is looking to be a fully immersive experience for the next-gen consoles.
Blood Red Planet
Even though details are fundamentally scarce right now, what is known is that the studio making this game is a brand new one. Even though they are a pretty small team, they have the tools and the talent to deliver something that is almost AAA. The thing about Fort Solis is that it is trying to be a more intimate affair. It won’t be a bombastic nerve-wracking affair like other cosmic horror games out there. In fact, it labels itself as being a “thriller” as opposed to bonafide horror. Things will be tense and players will be in the midst of unraveling a mystery in real-time. Now, it appears that there will be melee combat, as well as projectiles in this game. Given that Leery is a lowly engineer and not a soldier, firearms won’t be his forte. Instead, tools and gadgets will be his arsenal during this journey.
Much like God of War, this game wants to offer a seamless experience with no cut scenes. Additionally, it also doesn’t want any loading screens of any type, either. It strives to give gamers a fully realized playthrough with no breaks in the action. Furthermore, it appears that Fort Solis will be a wide-linear game in which players can choose what type of adventure to have. There will be multiple ways to traverse the structure that will ultimately lead to an important story point. This game will have multiple layers to it. The surface of Mars will be fully explorable via vehicle. Alternatively, gamers can play the entire campaign inside Fort Solis without ever going outside. It is solely up to them on what type of path to take. Of course, no matter how players go about their journey, there are hazards to deal with at every turn.
Deserted and Delirious
Leery will be pretty much by himself through the game. Even though Fort Solis is a mining facility with a crew, nobody knows if anyone is still alive. It’s up to the player to find them. The entire structure of the facility will be fully explorable through maintenance tunnels, vents, and various rooms, of course. Chances are that players will need to scour the area for certain equipment and keys to access these places. It also appears that Leery’s HUD will be seen on certain parts of his suit. Mainly, this will most likely entail his health, oxygen level, and maybe even stamina. There is a wrist band on his left arm in the trailer that signifies this. Of course, there could be whole new ideas in place on how the HUD will work in this game. Especially, since it is trying to be a wholly immersive ride.
Whatever the case, Fort Solis is one of those games that dropped out of nowhere. Even though it is taking some clear inspirations from other established titles, at least it’s putting next-gen hardware to good use. What is interesting is that this game will offer multiple playthroughs with its story campaign. No two gaming sessions will be alike. Thus, it will be interesting to see what the enemy A.I. will be like. Right now, there is a tight lid on everything. However, the basic information available does seem promising. It will be fascinating to see what other plans the developers will have with their new IP. Hopefully, they will strive to make something stand on their own two legs as opposed to leaning too heavily toward the direction of Dead Space. In any case, this game could take the gaming world by surprise when released.
A Mars Mystery
As of right now, there is no publisher established with Fort Solis. Considering that the developers managed to recruit top-tier talent for this game, it is only a matter of time before this situation is rectified. Currently, Fort Solis is slated to be released exclusively on PC sometime in the future. Once a publisher is established, chances are that this IP will also be coming to next-gen consoles, as well. As of right now, anything can happen in terms of where this game will go. Hopefully, gamers across all platforms will be able to check this out whenever it finally drops.
