Five-Year-Old says his special Ninja Turtle Mask Makes him Feel Stronger During Cancer Treatments
We talk about superheroes, feats of strength, and the “unbelievable” all the time on this site. But 99% of the time it’s in relation to a video game, comic book, movie, or television show. However, rarely do we see the life of a superhero incorporated into real life, in real
A five-year-old boy from by the name of Harley Renshaw from Great Britain has created a superhero mask to help him face up to a grueling three months of treatment as he battles a rare form of cancer. Harley is fighting cancer in his kidney, neck, lung and bones – but his Ninja Turtle mask makes him feel stronger while having his treatment.
Hospital staff were amazed when Harley asked if he could decorate the protective mask used during his strenuous cancer treatments. Harley has awarded one of Cancer Research UK’s Little Star Awards which acknowledges the unique challenges faced by youngsters who encounter cancer. His mother, said: “We couldn’t be prouder of our boy. He has had such a lot to deal with, but he just takes it all in his stride and gets on with it. He is a true inspiration and he is our superhero.”
Harley has had 80 days of intensive chemotherapy and an operation to remove his kidney tumor. A month later, he was back at hospital for a stem cell transplant – but fought back from complications to return home for his fifth birthday. He’s currently in line for five more months of treatment and is fighting like the superheroes he idolizes.
