Conan Heads to E3, Triumph Unfortunately Not With Him
Is it just me, or are late night talk show hosts really starting to figure out the appeal of video game segments? Between Conan, Kimmel and Fallon, I feel like I’m seeing a new video game-related segment every few days.
My favorite of these have been Conan’s “Clueless Gamer” segments where he plays a title despite having no actual video game skill. Yes, he can heavily play into the stereotypes of the industry, re: nerd-dom and female objectification, but it’s hard to deny the segments aren’t hilarious.
After those bits did so well, he decided to head to the biggest gaming event of them all, E3, and the above video documents his journey. It’s as hilarious as you might expect, but I miss the days where Triumph the Insult Comic Dog might have gone in his place.
You can thank NBC for killing Triumph. When O’Brien left, he couldn’t take any of his old material with him since the show was property of the network. Triumph was part of that show and they ain’t using him, so that’s how you kill a beloved character.
His Clueless Gamer for Tomb Raider was spectacular, and I believe he later had the lovely Keeley Hawes on the show a short time later and continued the hilarity (talking about how the game made you fall for Lara, then repeatedly killed her off in gruesome ways, and it was ALL.HIS.FAULT.)
