Happy Memorial Day

Published by under Images,Movies

We talk a lot of about fictional characters on the site here (as seen above), but it’s time to remember the real life badasses who gave their lives for our country.

Enjoy your (hopefully sunny) Memorial Day, and we’ll see you back here tomorrow.

20 Movie Posters With a Food Theme

Published by under Images

As you all know by now we’re a big fan of when people use photoshop.   Clearly it’s a staple in much of our image galleries.   One of the best uses of the tool is in manipulating pictures having to do with movies.

In particular today we’re going to focus on movie posters.   While movie posters are a great way to symbolize and advertise a movie, there’s also tons of room for change and “improvement.”

In this case the users decided to give these movie posters a new theme:  food…….

Go here to see the best TV pirates.

Thanks to Pirates of the Caribbean and its endless sequels, movie pirates are now officially lame. Fortunately the same is NOT true for TV pirates, who are by all accounts, way cooler.

What Han’s Doing in Retirement

Published by under Images,Movies

I never read any of the “official” books that chronicle what happened to Luke, Leia and Han after the events of Return of the Jedi, but I’m pretty sure nowhere in them was Han Solo settling down and opening up a grilled cheese truck using his famous ship as the namesake.

I tried to CSI enhance this image to the point where I could read the assuredly humorous menu choices, but I just couldn’t do it. Damn you pixels!

Side note: Would you be mad if they made a new post-Solo and Skywalker Star Wars series that didn’t follow any of the released books at all? I sure as shit wouldn’t.

Sonic: Now Only Exciting When Pros Play It

Published by under Video Games,Videos

A long time ago, a “Sonic speedrun” would have seemed to be sort of a redundant statement, as the whole game is supposed to revolve around going fast.

But the years went by, and most Sonic games stopped being good, and subsequently people stopped trying to be good AT them. Well, almost everyone.

What you see above is a “professional” speed run that starts off impressive, but blasts into a stratosphere of ridiculousness pretty quickly. Granted it’s not going to make me go play a Sonic title again, but it’s still pretty cool to witness.

A Proper Age Verification System

Published by under Images,Video Games

If you’re like me, you get annoyed when you want to watch the trailer for some new game, and the damn video player makes you enter your full birthdate into it using a drop down menu that causes 99% of all players to be born on January 1st of the first year they can select. Anything before 1990 at this point should do.

Some have made it a bit easier, just having you type in your actual age, which makes more sense, but here Crysis decided to be a bit clever with it, asking viewers to identify a mysterious device that only people over eighteen should recognize.

Pretty damn funny if you ask me, though I fail to understand the internet rules that make any sort of typed in or selected age verification necessary, as nearly every porn site on the planet (so I’m told), requires nothing like that, or at the most, a simple “Yes I am 18 button.” Why do all these gaming sites and videos fall under different rules?

Unreal Game Review: Dead Space 2

Published by under Reviews,Video Games

3.5 out of 5 stars

Thanks to my new handy game rental service Plurent, I’ve managed to keep up with the times when it comes to playing and reviewing new releases. I paid about thirteen bucks in rental fees instead of $120 to exhaust everything I needed to do in Portal 2 and Mortal Kombat, and so I set my sights on a title I really wanted to play from a little while back.

Due to the ban on violent video games in my house growing up, I never got into survival horror titles like Resident Evil or Silent Hill, and subsequently as I got older, never got into the sequels. I tried to play Resident Evil 5 for about ten minutes but was laughing too hard to continue when I learned that there was a game released in 2010 where you can’t move and shoot at the same time.

When I discovered the original Dead Space, this site was in its infancy. One of the first posts I ever wrote here was this one, chronicling all the nasty ways you could die in the game. I’m not sure I ever did an official review, but at the end of the year, I did go back and make a few suggestions for improvement, even though I overwhelmingly loved the game.

An Indiana Jones Fatality

Published by under Images,Video Games

I’m not quite sure how I came across this particular GIF, but like the prompt says, it is in fact pretty awesome.

This was one of my favorite scenes from Raiders of the Lost Ark, and I wish that action/adventure movies still did stuff this creative.

But there’s always National Treasure 3 and David O. Russell’s Uncharted right? I’m totally joking.

A Gallery of Art Nouveau Movie Posters and Such

Published by under Images

People say that my job isn’t usually focused on “high brow culture.” So what if I gave Fast Five four stars? It was awesome, and you can go to hell.

Anyway, in an effort to become a little bit more cultured, I’ve found this collection of “art nouveau” posters, which I believe is French for “art with lots of swirly lines in it.” Or something close to that.

They are rather cool, I must admit, and if you can find any of them for purchase (I couldn’t), it could be a nice way to express your love of movies in your fancy house while pretending to be uber-cultured at the same time.

Check out the rest below:
