Video Game Controllers Get X-Rayed

I like to imagine that this series of pictures started as an argument between two friends where one blamed his malfunctioning controller when he kept losing a game. “You’re lying,” “No, the button really sticks!” “I’ll prove it!” And so they wandered into their day job as X-ray technicians, and this photo set was born.

In reality, it was just a bored person with access to such a machine, but the resulting pictures are an almost beautiful collection of machinery hidden inside items we take for granted. There’s a lot of work that goes into making an effective controller. Note that the Wiimote and Nunchuck have not been X-rayed. That’s because all you’d find inside them was candy corn and magic.

  1. That’s bias. the Wii remote and Nunchuk actually have technology more advanced than what is in the PS3 and Xbox360 controllers.

and the dual analog stick thing with the sticks also serving as buttons? that’s confusing to a first-timer.

X-ray more controllers, and you’ll see Nintendo products are better.

and to note, graphics dont matter if the game sucks.

  2. Peter, stop being so butthurt over a fucking joke. <.<

Speaking of which products are better, current Nintendo products aren't high tech. PS3 and Xbox are more powerful and can play better games(I'll retract this when Skyrim and Mass Effect ae ported to the Wii without downgraded graphics and gameplay.)

But yes, the technology in the Wiimote is so much better than the other two's, so much so that they had to make an extension to actually make an add-on so it would be responsive. XD

And the L3 R3 buttons on a PS3/Xbox aren't as confusing as the Nintendo 64's Z button, or the Gamecube's monstrosity of a controller.

Don't get me started on the failure that is the 3DS. 😛

  3. Failure? It should be pretty damn obvious to anyone with an ounce of common sense that current technology does not yet allow Nintendo to pack the power of a console system into a tiny handheld at low manufacturing costs.

In regards to handheld gaming, the 3DS is currently the top of the class.

  5. I do believe you to be wrong Mr. Pat. I have owned a 3DS and currently own a PS Vita. The 3DS has a much smaller screen than the Vita for one. Secondly 3DS graphics are quite horrible when compared to the Vita. The controls for the Vita are way smoother than the 3DS, hell the motion controls for the Vita are smother than the 3DS. And thats just the systems. Sony is at least trying out new game ideas for their systems. Nintendo is just rehashing the same old same old. Im sorry but that gets really boring after awhile.
