The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Wind Temple Boss Guide
The Wind Temple boss in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom offers a unique interpretation of doing battle. The Wind Temple is stationed within the peaks of the Hebra Mountains. This temple is a major puzzle to solve, as it contains five different wind locks to open up. During this quest, Link will be forced to use Tulin’s Gust power to actively progress into the temple. This temple can be a bit maddening, due to the various ice problems that get in the way. This is especially true with the boss at the end. Players will be fighting against the elements when trying to find a way to destroy this boss, and it can be a little bit overwhelming at first.
Once players complete the temple. they will come across Colgera. He is a flying serpent that is alight within the clouds, riding the wind during a turbulent storm. His weak spots can be tricky to gain access to. There are a couple of ways to engage in this fight. Link will need to use about every tool in his arsenal in order to stand a chance. Colgera can look intimidating at first, but he is not so bad once players know how to work around him. The most harrowing aspect of this fight is dealing with the wind. Link can easily lose control and re-positioning himself with his glider can get a little annoying, sometimes. Stay high in the air and pinpoint where Colgera is going. He will use portals to teleport to other places in the arena. Always look around yourself and try to avoid cheap attacks.
So, Colgera has three distinct weak spots spread among his underbelly. They are covered in an icy layer, which will need to be shattered to gain access. Each weak spot is located at the; head, thorax, and abdomen. Considering that this is a moving target, it will take a little work to do any damage to Colgera. The safest way to hit the target is to fall past him, then shoot the weak spot with an arrow. Generally, any arrow will shatter the ice. So, equip whatever is available and use it at your discretion. Thusly, there is also a riskier, unconventional way to do this. Some players overlook this option and they think Link will get hurt doing this. It is understandable since Colgera is a deadly foe.
First Phase of Colgera Boss Fight
So, when falling, Link can do a dive move while in the air. Whenever Colgera attacks with his projectiles, his weak spot will be exposed for a moment. So, simply dive through it and hit the spot. Pulling this off will dish out about 20 percent of damage. One would think that Link will lose some hearts by doing this, but he doesn’t. So, whenever Link passes Colgera after attacking him, just take out the glider and float back on top of the arena. Now, most players will end up using their bow and arrow to shoot at the weak spots. Which is the most natural way to do things. The difficult part about doing this is that players will need to pull off this feat, twice. There is no need to chase Colgera, as he teleports around the arena, resetting his movement pattern.
So, fall underneath Colgera, shoot the ice shield on the weak spots, then glide back up and try again. There will now be a glowing purple light exposed. Shoot it as soon as possible to start chipping Colgera’s health bar. Generally, that is all it takes for the first phase. Secondly, the diving attack option does more damage. However, the constant bombardment of the ejecting icicles makes this strategy highly dangerous. Also, try and avoid getting rammed by Colgera when skydiving. Because one hit can do quite a bit of damage. Even though this method is tedious, it will come across as generally easy in comparison to the second phase.
Second Phase of Colgera Boss Fight
So, when the second phase kicks off, Colgera will begin summoning tornadoes around the area. Colgera will be harder to catch up with, due to the increase in speed. Additionally, the tornadoes will be throwing Link around the sky, making it extra difficult to engage with Colgera. The only way to bypass this is by using Tulin’s Gust. This will help Link break away from a current that he is stuck in. Now, as far as attacking Colgera, everything remains the same in the second phase. Look for the designated weak spots and destroy them by any means necessary.
Colgera will tend to fly around the tornadoes that have been unleashed. Which can make targeting him extra difficult. If you are planning to dive attack him, then wait for the tornadoes to separate and go in between them. All in all, this is probably the best way to deal with Colgera during the second phase. Players can try the bow and arrows, sure. However, the chances of the tornadoes sweeping Link up are heightened due to Link’s vulnerability. Generally, this boss fight is all about a “rinse and repeat” method. Just stay patient, and try not to get swept away by the wind too much. Once everything lines up, Colgera can actually go down pretty easily.
Conclusion
No doubt that Colgera is one of the most action-packed boss fights in Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Take your time and plan your attack accordingly. Choose whichever method is most comfortable. With a little time and well-coordinated attacks, Colgera will go down in without many problems. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is now available for Nintendo Switch.
