The Juggernaut We (Thankfully) Never Say in X-Men: Days of Future Past
X-Men: Days of Future Past was a great film, but it served to do something other than just entertain. The plot was actually meant to undo a lot of the damage done to the series by X-Men: The Last Stand, in which Brett Ratner murdered everyone. As such, barely any of the new characters in that film appeared in this one (except Ellen Page’s wall-warper), but one almost made the cut.
That would be Vinnie Jones’ Juggernaut, which could have showed up in the post-apocalypse as an altered version of himself. These concept pieces show what that might have looked like, and it’s clear they were going for a sort of Bane vibe, but I don’t think he quite pulls it off. There’s one more shot below that only amplifies that effect. Check it out:
Oh, for crying out…look, I *know* no one else liked X3, but it at LEAST had a perfectly serviceable Juggernaut costume!
I liked X3. Frankly I don’t understand everyone’s beef with it. That a movie about a mutant uprising had too many mutants in it? Seriously? It was just as good an instalment as the previous two.
And I quite like the first costume up there. Not too keen on the second though.
I LIKED X-MEN 3. I liked it more than FIRST-CLASS and DAYS OF FUTURE PAST because it wasn’t riddled with major plot inconsistencies. I liked it more than X-MEN 1, because I thought it had better story than that vague, television movie style crap that Singer churned out in 2000.
And frankly, I would have preferred if Josh Helman had portrayed a younger Juggernaut or just about anyone else, other than a younger William Stryker, whose presence in DAYS OF FUTURE PAST really screwed up the plot.
