The Angler will be a Tranquil Online Fishing Experience
The Angler is a new installment of The Call of the Wild series of outdoor living video games. This is a third-person simulator where players have the chance to explore an open world and try out various fishing spots. This map is fully explorable and players will be able to go where they please either on foot or by vehicle. Since this is essentially a sporting activity, there will be a myriad of techniques, equipment, strategies, and areas to utilize. This will be a living and breathing world with an ever-shifting environment. There will be a multitude of fish to catch that range in varying sizes and classes. With every type of species of fish, there is to catch, each comes with its own difficulty ranking. This game is a very tactical experience, complete with all the nuances that the sport of fishing entails. The time of day, spot, bait, and rod all play a factor in catching the most wanted fish in the watering hole.
Although The Angler focuses on just one activity that’s usually a side-quest in open-world games, there is a hefty amount of detail in this title. The map is well-realized and it looks like the landscape of Montana and other states. Not to mention that it is quite vast and the choices of places to fish are insurmountable. Frankly, this game is a fishing fan’s dream come true. It is the closest thing to actually fishing in real life. The art design in this game is going for a realist approach. Much like in Way of the Hunter. Another factor in this game that could bring joy to adventurers is the sense of discovery this game will have. There will be all sorts of hidden areas to find that will offer top-tier fish and other rewards to collect.
The Hook Life
The varying degrees of snagging a fish will all be present in The Angler. There will be legendary fish lurking in the depths of the lakes. As any fisherman knows, timing is key. Fishing in the twilight or at dawn is usually when the biggest fish bite and this fact remains true in this game. Of course, there will be a dynamic time-changing element in this game. Not to mention, different weather will also shift periodically. All these things interweave into the overall strategy of catching either a largemouth bass or a little cod. The water itself is also another character in itself. The depth, temperature, and altitude will determine which species of fish will be swimming around. Speaking of which, every type of fish will come with its own characteristics. No two fish in this game will behave the same way. One species will be elusive while another is more active.
Each catch comes with money which players can use to buy more prominent gear. There will be constant updates to The Angler, in which the selection of gear and fish will expand on a regular basis. Varying rods, bait, lures, hooks, floats, lines, and even reels can be collected. Players can custom-make their own fishing poles and there are thousands of variations on how they can be built. Even though this is a single-player experience, there will also be online compatibility with this venture. Players can go on fishing expeditions with their friends and explore the map themselves. Thusly, there will also be challenges to partake in that will be announced on a periodic basis. Which, in turn, will offer exclusive rewards and robust amounts of money. Generally, there will always be a mission to complete in this game to help keep the world feel alive.
Language of the Water
Players will also be able to traverse the map by boat. Rivers, creeks, lakes, and bayous will all be ripe with places to explore. Other players will also be able to meet each other while out on the field in a seamless fashion. Very much an organic and real way that other fishermen meet each other in real life. They can choose to go on adventures together or have friendly competitions. The Angler will be a game in which new content will drip feed into it on a regular basis. It will come in the form of both free and paid content. Exclusive content will be available for purchase, of course. However, this will be just in the form of customizations, most likely. Thus, there is also a chance that parts of the map will add some new areas like outposts and cabins, for example.
So, it appears that The Angler is going to be another solid addition to the Call of the Wild series of games. Not only does this title have tactically to it, but also has a little bit of science. The fact that players will need to pay attention to the warmth of the water and the stillness of it gives this game an edge. The map truly does appear to be a living and breathing world. Thus, gamers won’t need to worry about fighting off predators or even enemies. This game was made to be a relaxing fishing simulator and that is exactly what it delivers. Also, the fact that the developers are planning on supporting it for a prolonged period of time will certainly give it some longevity. With the hundreds of freshwater species of fish that exist, there is no telling how far this game could go.
Reel Time Fishing
For anyone that is looking for a tranquil experience without much stress, and has an earthy tone to it, then The Angler should be on their list. There is a surprising amount of content to be found here. Even if this game is only about fishing. The Angler is scheduled to come out on August 31. It will be available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC when it launches. No word yet on whether it will be coming to next-gen consoles, but it is entirely possible that an upgraded version of this game could be in the works.
