It seems like every time you turn around, there is a new medical drama on television. Some are definitely more accurate than others. Even when it’s not an actual medical drama, so to speak, it’s not all that uncommon to find certain scenes within television and movies that deal with some type of perceived medical emergency. Have you ever wondered how accurate these things really are?
Some of them sort of look like they might actually be able to happen and others are clearly ridiculous, even to someone that has never been medically trained in their life. The thing is, people that are in the medical field have a tendency to analyze the scenes in great detail. In reality, it can be both funny and frustrating for a medical professional to watch scenes on television and realize how many things they did wrong in the show.
Most medical people who see this sort of thing complain to their family, their friends and anyone else that will listen about all of the different ways somebody screwed up in a scene that was supposed to be full of medical drama. As far as most people are concerned, that’s about as far as it goes. However, one person is taking it a step further. A medical resident has done a critique of several different movies and television shows, complete with clips and commentary. Not only does she tell you whether or not the scene is actually possible, she tells you why or why not. It makes it easier for people that aren’t medically trained to understand what’s going on and it makes people that are trained in the medical field feel vindicated about all of these scenes that couldn’t be more incorrect if they tried.
If you’re in the medical profession, you’re going to love this video. Even if you’re not, there’s bound to be a few scenes that you recognize from shows or movies that you’ve watched yourself. At the very least, it gives you something to do for a few minutes and it’s interesting, to boot. This is definitely something worth checking out, no matter what you do for a living.
