Remnant 2: Rise from the Ashes – Unlocking Special Archetypes
Remnant 2 is a souls-like RPG that borrows some ideas that IPs from FromSoftware are known for. However, this title is more militant in its approach toward this kind of genre. Instead of magic and blades, this game emphasizes guns and blades. Therefore, there are classes that players must choose from called “Archetypes.” Just like any other ARPG, these types of classes come with specs that are each suited for certain types of play styles. What many newcomers won’t know, is that there are actually secret Archetypes that can be unlocked while playing.
These kinds of Archetypes come with heavy perks that can be game-changers in many regards. Some have superior gun shooting capabilities while others excel in finding resources. Finding these kinds of archetypes is no easy task and players will need to be prepared for a turbulent journey. Some quests are more narrow toward completing them, as others tend to rely more on randomness and luck. Needless to say, once players unlock one of these secret types of warriors, there is a whole new level of fun to be had.
There is a specific list of requirements to complete in order to obtain a special archetype. They are all different, of course. There isn’t a universal feat available that unlocks all the special archetypes. It’s almost like a side-quest that must be completed to unlock every kind of these archetypes. It varies from biome to biome and also in difficulty. There are a number of secret archetypes to discover in Remnant 2 and this article will focus on the three most useful ones for players to take advantage of.
The Summoner
Now, unlocking the summoner is definitely one of the most ‘grindy’ out of the bunch. It takes being at a certain place, at a certain time, to obtain 15 Bloodmoon Essence, which can only be found in Yaesha. These are little floating purple orbs that randomly spawn throughout this area. Your best bet will be hanging around the Forgotten Grove and farming there. The kicker is that the area of Yaesha needs to be under a Blood Moon Cycle when farming for some Bloodmoon Essence. So, whenever you are visiting Yaesha, be sure to look at the sky and make sure that the moon is red.
So, be sure to take a portal to Yaesha periodically and make sure it’s under the Blood Moon Cycle in Adventure Mode. You may need to go portal in and out of this area to make this happen. There is no rhyme or reason as to why a Blood Moon cycle appears in Yaesha. It is kind of a random thing. After collecting 15 Bloodmoon Essence, swing by a Bloodmoon Altar and purchase a Faded Grimoire. Then, take it to back to Wallace over at Ward 13 and the summoner will finally be unlocked.
The Explorer
When it comes to the explorer, this is the most straightforward archetype to unlock in Remnant 2. The only thing that a player must do is complete the campaign without difficulty. After this happens, players will be rewarded with a broken compass, which they must take back to Wallace to unlock the explorer. Generally, this archetype can be used to clean up the missing collectibles hidden throughout Remnant 2. Which, by the way, this game is teeming with. Chances are, during your first playthrough, you may have miss
The explorer has the ability to highlight crates and see them through walls. He also comes with a perk where he gets 35% more items with each defeated enemy. This archetype can be beneficial for farming special resources, such as the aforementioned Bloodmoon Essence, for example. Not to mention, he can also outline secrets hidden throughout the game. This can help all the completionists out there that want to pick this game clean after the campaign. Needless to say, there is a lot to find in Remnant 2, and any kind of ‘hearing’ or ‘seeing’ ability from a archetype can really make all the difference.
The Alchemist
Unlocking the alchemist is the most unique process among the other archetypes. The first step is to head over to Losomn and start exploring the sewers. Now, look for a specific sewer grate that has two bars in the center of it. Simply walk toward it and wait to see if a creature will grab your ankle and yank you into the grate. A cut scene will ensue and then you will wake up among a pile of bones. Gradually, you will discover that you are in the lair of the creature that dragged you down there. These grates are placed sporadically throughout the sewers of Losomn and players may need to poke around a bit to find one.
Defeat the creature and it will drop a mysterious stone. After obtaining the stone, go back to Ward 13 and talk to Wallace. Here is where the Alchemist will be unlocked. There is no guarantee the creature will always be in the grate. Sometimes there will be nothing there. So, it’s kind of a ‘luck of the draw’ to pull off this feat. The Alchemist is a support class that buffs up teammates and makes them immune to certain attacks. He is ideal for keeping teammates combat-ready and all the more efficient at clearing out hordes of enemies.
Conclusion
The secret archetypes in Remnant 2 provide much more replayability than its contemporaries. They can come in handy with cleaning up certain areas and offer more nuances to the multiplayer side of things. Every special archetype is worth hunting down and trying out. With that said, the three mentioned in this article are a good place to start before attempting to get them all. Remnant 2 is now available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
