Podcast: Paul, Benny and David Talk Beyond: Two Souls
Gamemoir Meets Unreality Podcast Ep. 4- Beyond Two Souls by Gamemoir on Mixcloud
Benny and I did another podcast this week, and this time, we invited Unreality’s own David R. to join us. David is our resident film guy, and writes about movies more than anything else, so we figured it would be good to get his take on “cinematic” video game Beyond: Two Souls.
Benny and I both love Quantic Dream’s previous game, Heavy Rain, so we were excited to see how Beyond turned out, while this was David’s first experience with the “interactive movie” genre. The game premiered to very, very mixed reviews, ranging from 5s and 6s on major sites to 9s and 10s on others. In my own full length review, I gave it a 9/10.
In short, all three of us liked the game, but we did have our fair share of issues with it, like supposed choices really not changing the end-game outcome at all. But through our discussion we did discover little changes in the game made by our decisions, things you wouldn’t even notice unless you had a conversation with others who played it after the fact. We also came to believe it’s nearly impossible to die in Beyond, even if you fail like 90% of all quick time events in the game.
It was a great conversation, and I thank Benny for putting this together and David for joining us. Until next time…
