Larry David Attempts to Play George on Seinfeld
It’s well known among Seinfeld fans that George Costanza was based on show creator Larry David, and if you’ve watched Curb Your Enthusiasm as well, the comparison is even more obvious once you see how Larry acts in (scripted) day to day life.
But for the Curb episode where they had a Seinfeld reunion (very, very meta), there’s a scene where Larry tries to play George. You’d think it would be easy, seeing as the character is based after him, but he’s rather terrible at it, and Jason Alexander has to step in and give him some pointers.
They may be neurotic about the same things, but George is MUCH higher energy than Larry, and Jason has to walk him through each of George’s individual outbursts line by line. I was laughing out loud by the end, and you probably will be too.
Larry is funny – on paper. But, when he starts acting, it’s just not that funny. He should stick to what he’s good at.
