I Still Have Weirdly High Hopes for Almost Human

Now that I realize Agents of SHIELD probably isn’t going to be the amazing show I thought it could be, my last hope of the new fall season is Almost Human. I shouldn’t like it. Despite its sci-fi twist, I know that it’s at its heart a police procedural, a genre I can’t stand.

But with that said, everything I’ve seen out of this looks fantastic, and I love Karl Urban, particularly when he’s playing a future cop (ie. Dredd). The above trailer shows the most footage I’ve seen from the show so far, and I’ll be damned if this doesn’t continue to look good. Other than the stupid like about a “ro-bromance,” which they never should have used as a quote.

The premiere is still a few weeks away, and I’m hoping it will surprise me and be a procedural I can tolerate because of how cool its concepts are. We’ll see.

  1. I’m still on the fence about this one. I really really like Urban, but so far all I’ve really seen is a potentially interesting concept that may or may not live up to its potential. Basically I’m worried they’re going to stay in the shallow end of the genre pool with this show. Look forward to you writing up the pilot, though.

  2. I’ll give it a shot, but it still looks like Genderswapped “Mann & Machine” to me, with a pretty black dude replacing Yancy Butler.

  3. Karl Urban is always good, and Michael Ealy looks promising. It’s basically a tv version of I Robot, but considering I really liked that movie, that’s a plus.
