Guardians of the What Now?
I kid, I kid, I know what Guardians of the Galaxy is, even if I’ve never read it. The first trailer is out for the upcoming film adaptation of the comic, and it seems to have set the internet on fire.
It focuses on a group of misfits led by Chris Pratt’s Star Lord, and is the first outright superhero comedy I’ve seen in quite some time. All Marvel’s superhero movies are funny to some extent (unlike DC’s, unless you’re counting Green Lantern being unintentionally hilarious), but this is a comedy first, and a blockbuster second, it seems. And I suppose you could consider movies like Kick-Ass or Super dark superhero comedies, but again, much different than this.
Between the supposedly excellent source material and people finally figuring out that Chris Pratt is amazing (everyone watching Parks and Recreation has known this for years), I have high hopes for this. I will say this isn’t exactly one of the best edited trailers I’ve seen, but it’s enough to get me interested.
I also love how this is still connected to the larger Marvel universe. Yes, that’s Benecio Del Toro as The Collector, who appeared in the after-credits scene of Thor 2. Now, Avengers meets Guardians of the Galaxy? Let’s shoot for that in like 2018.
