Greyhill Incident is a Game Inspired by True Experiences
Greyhill Incident is a new alien invasion game that is in the same vein as certain movies like Signs and perhaps, War of the Worlds. Taking place within the 90s, this game puts players in the shoes of an average guy named Ryan Baker who is in the midst of an extraterrestrial overtaking of his town. Not to be confused with a similar title, They Are Here, this game is offering a very different experience. With They Are Here offering a “cat and mouse” type of experience, Greyhill Incident is more of an action-based survival horror adventure. Both games are played from a first-person perspective. The major difference with this particular title is that players will actually be able to fight against the Greys by their own hands. Of course, there will be other features in this title like; hiding, stealth, solving puzzles, and managing firepower. Not to mention that there is also a story to digest through environmental narrative.
Even though Greyhill Incident is still under heavy development, there is some information available to help gamers get more of a gist of what to expect. This game will take place during the course of one night. Giving players free reign on where to go and explore. The character of Ryan will have a sense of agility to him. He will be able to sneak around corn fields, in the shadows, and behind objects with ease. Ryan won’t be alone in his fight, either. He will be communicating with his neighbors throughout the campaign. Helping them with varying quests and objectives. This game is very much an underdog story. A simple guy trying to make a living getting thrown into a titanic situation. What makes matter worse is that the world is still using analog technology, severely hindering modern ways of communication.
Ire In The Sky
Throughout the course of the game, Ryan will be armed with a basic baseball bat and revolver. Even though players will be able to engage in combat, the core of Greyhill Incident is that it is very much a stealth game. So, it isn’t recommended to go hog wild and lay out the Greys whenever they pop up. They will easily swarm Ryan and they’ll capture him. Combat in this game will very much be the last resort. Hence, this is why ammunition will be scarce. When it comes to stealth, Ryan will be able to hide in closets, inside vehicles, and in the shadows. As mentioned before, the main protagonist will be able to freely explore the area. Every area will have different stats and challenges associated with them. With that said, this game will also have some slight leanings toward Metroidvania territory.
Ryan will need certain tools to open up particular areas. Hence, there will be a bit of backtracking in Greyhill Incident. Players will be encouraged to scavenge for resources and find whatever they can to survive. In terms of lore, players will be finding secret documents, files, and newspapers to read. Not to mention that televisions will be placed in certain locations giving newscasts of the event. Ryan will be able to communicate with NPCs through his walkie-talkie. This will drive the story forward, with updates and twists of the story happening in real time. Players will need to have keen detective skills to piece together the history of Greyhill Village and figure out the source of the Grey’s visitation. The village is wrought with houses that will be boarded up. Players will be able to walk up to a door and knock on it. This will be the prime way to receive hints, quests, and perhaps new items to help out.
Star Power
Of course, there are hints in the trailer that there is a vast Government cover-up about the Greyhill Incident. Whether or not agents will show up in the game remains to be seen. There will also be some whimsical creatures in this game besides the Greys. There appears to be a cat of some kind that Ryan will have with him. This creature may assist Ryan with finding things, avoiding detection, or maybe providing intel. This is just mere speculation, at this point. However, there is indeed more to this game than what meets the eye. There will also be a cast of colorful characters to work with. People like Bob who is Ryan’s brother, and Brandon who is a veteran. These characters will be an important part of the story and will assist Ryan with information, tools, and other items.
From the looks of things, Greyhill Incident is oozing with potential. It is a refreshing change from the “alien invasion” sub-genre that’s teeming throughout the video game industry. There is definitely a tense and foreboding atmosphere to this title. What makes this game extra unnerving is that it is relatable. Based on real-life documented extraterrestrial encounters, this game has all the cliches of alien encounters along with innovative notions. So far, it appears to play well and Ryan has a few slick parkour moves. He can climb ladders and leap around things fairly nimbly. There’s a lightness to his movements. Which, by the way, will be needed whenever hordes of Greys close in on him. One wrong move and they can sniff Ryan out pretty quick. Along with their creepy “clicking” noises, there is an innate uneasiness to these creatures. Not to mention their vessels lighting up the skies, cattle mutilations, and electronic interference on devices.
The Pace Of Outer Space
With two similar games coming out, it is all a matter of preference. Greyhill Incident is more of a Resident Evil 7 type of experience while They Are Here is related more to Alien: Isolation. Both are viable games to check out. As of right now, Greyhill Incident will be releasing something next spring. It will be available for PC whenever it drops in the near future. There are currently no plans to release this game on consoles. However, things are always subject to change down the road.
