The latest installment in The Legend of Zelda franchise is interesting in that it is an open-world game, which is a huge contrast to the much more linear nature of its predecessors. As a result, it should come as no surprise to learn that Breath of the Wild is packed full of side quests, which provide the player with a chance to pick up new goodies as well as a chance to learn more about the land of Hyrule.
Here are our five favorite side quests in Breath of the Wild:
Flown the Coop
A Zelda game isn’t a Zelda game unless it has cuccos. As a result, Flown the Coop has secured a position on this list by featuring the chickens in a prominent role. Like its name suggests, it requires the player to find a total of seven cuccos scattered throughout Kakariko Village, which can take some time and effort to complete. Overall, Flown the Coop is not a particularly innovative side quest, but it is a nice bit of nostalgia.
From the Ground Up
One of the things that stand out about Breath of the Wild is that it is set in a post-apocalyptic world. However, while there are moments of sadness that are appropriate for such a setting, there are also moments of hope that serve as reminders that people can rebuild, with the best example being From the Ground Up. In exchange for helping Hudson build Tarrey Town, players will be rewarded with new options as well as a number of heart-warming moments.
Hunt for the Giant Horse
Hunt for the Giant Horse is, well, a hunt for a giant horse that ends with the player getting to keep said horse. Although the giant horse has zero Stamina, it does have five Strength, thus making for a unique experience. Moreover, people have speculated that the giant horse is a deliberate reference to Ganondorf’s steed, which has made a number of appearances over the course of the franchise.
Sunken Treasure sees Link searching for treasure out on the ocean. It can be completed by finding, recovering, and opening one such chest, meaning that it is one of the simpler and more straightforward side quests in Breath of the Wild. However, it gets bonus points for being a reminder of The Wind Waker, which made a fair amount of use of said premise because of its water-world nature.
The Eighth Heroine
Starting and ending The Eight Heroine requires Link to have put on the Gerudo set. As a result, it should come as no surprise to learn that the side quest can be rather unusual, though that much more amusing because of it. Regardless, it is relatively simple, seeing as how all that is required is to take a picture of the statute of the Eighth Heroine.
