Five Battle Royales That Are Here To Stay

Battle Royale’s have been taking over the gaming world. Every multiplayer developer that has had any success has at least talked about diving into the genre. Most of them have already. But like any market, not every game that comes at for the battle royale genre is good and a lot of them tend to die down. As strictly multiplayer, battle royale games need to keep their community engaged and coming back to stay alive. If not then they can risk losing their game entirely because no one will be playing. So we’re examining five battle royale games that we think have what it takes to stand the test of time.

Warzone

Warzone is Call of Duty’s answer to the whole battle royale formula and it is one that we know is going to stand the test of time no matter what sort of game is delivered. Warzone started with Blackout technically. Blackout was a battle royale that took beloved maps from the Black Ops franchise and meshed it into a great battle royale map which is half the battle with these games. You need a great map. So Warzone came along and did the same with Modern Warfare maps and fans loved it. The community grew and the esports scene was established. At this point, we don’t see Warzone slowing down at all. Now with Microsoft’s acquisition, they can only go up.

Synopsis: “Welcome to Warzone Pacific, the massive free-to-play combat arena which now features the brand-new map, Caldera. Drop Into Paradise. Join forces with your friends and jump into a tropical battleground with up to 150 players. Loot For Rewards. Discover supply boxes and complete contracts to build your arsenal and gain a tactical advantage. Battle Across Three Epic Modes. Experience aerial combat in ‘Vanguard Royale,’ tap into the largest arsenal in standard ‘Battle Royale’ or play ‘Plunder’ in a race to earn the Most Cash in the match.”

Fall Guys

Fall Guy’s social media team is top tier and one of the best on the scene. They showcased that battle royales didn’t have to be just first-person shooters. They could involve other genres too. There’s no other game out there remotely like Fall Guys. This is why we know this one will always be there. It has already amounted to many collaborations and it had a huge growth spurt with Playstation Plus. We’re excited to see what other sort of great obstacles Fall Guys will put in our path.

Synopsis: “Fall Guys is a massively multiplayer party game with up to 60 players online in a free-for-all struggle through round after round of escalating chaos until one victor remains! Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout flings hordes of contestants together online in a mad dash through round after round of escalating chaos until one victor remains! Battle bizarre obstacles, shove through unruly competitors and overcome the unbending laws of physics as you stumble towards greatness. Leave your dignity at the door and prepare for hilarious failure in your quest to claim the crown! Massive Online Pandemonium: Dive into a series of ridiculous challenges and wild obstacle courses with masses of other competitors online, all with the hopes of making the cut and advancing to the next round of mayhem. Competitive & Cooperative: Shift between competitive free-for-alls and cooperative challenges where the losing team all get eliminated! Comically Physical: Watch in delight as your fellow competitors bend, bounce, and bash their way to hilarious, physics-based failure!”

Apex Legends

Titanfall 2 was one of my favorite first-person shooters ever. So when I heard that Respawn was making a battle royale and blending in the abilities I was excited. Apex Legends came out and it was everything I had dreamed about and more. Nowadays it is the most popular of the battle royales and it also keeps adding to its list of legends on a regular basis. Its safe to say that as long as Respawn is willing to support Apex Legends, it won’t lose momentum and will always have a strong player base.

Synopsis: “Conquer with character in Apex Legends, a free-to-play Hero shooter where legendary characters with powerful abilities team up to battle for fame & fortune on the fringes of the Frontier. Master an ever-growing roster of diverse Legends, deep tactical squad play and bold new innovations that go beyond the Battle Royale experience—all within a rugged world where anything goes. Welcome to the next evolution of Hero Shooter.”

Player Unknown Battlegrounds

Some would say that Player Unknown Battlegrounds was the original Battle Royale. It wasn’t, but it was one of the first ones to really gain mass popularity. It’s as simple as they come in terms of Battle Royales but its player base is one of the most dedicated you’ll find in gaming so we’re sure that Player Unknown Battlegrounds will be serving chicken dinners for days to come.

Synopsis: “Land on strategic locations, loot weapons and supplies, and survive to become the last team standing across various, diverse Battlegrounds.
Squad up and join the Battlegrounds for the original Battle Royale experience that only PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS can offer.”

Fortnite

Fortnite is the grandfather of battle royales at this point. It is by far the most successful of the bunch and it has built a relationship with almost every license you can think of. You can literally take Naruto, Superman, Spider-Man, and Rick into a fight against Sakura, Thanos, Lebron James, and Venom. Never in a million years did we think we would be able to say stuff like that. But it’s there. As long as Epic Games continues to support this franchise we know that it will be extremely popular among the crowd.

Synopsis: “The Island you once knew has been turned upside down…literally. Step foot onto the new Island and explore every corner of an undiscovered world in Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 1: Flipped. Swing through the iconic Daily Bugle or slide into Sanctuary, the home base of The Foundation and The Seven. Join The Seven as they prepare for a looming war against the Imagined Order across a once-frozen landscape filled with new POIs and dangerous new weather conditions to test your skills. Plus earn XP beyond Battle Royale to level up your Battle Pass and unlock Spider-Man, The Foundation, and all the new Battle Pass cosmetics.”
