Don’t Be Stupid, Emmys
Unreality isn’t exactly a wide-circulated enough internet publication to have any sway on the Emmys, but I will throw my minuscule weight behind this campaign to get Tatiana Maslany an award for her work in Orphan Black.
In case you missed my more in-depth thoughts about the program a week or so ago, you can check them out here. The sum up, Tatiana Maslany IS the show, playing seven different characters, all with different personalities and acting in many scenes that require her to interact with an invisible version of herself.
If she doesn’t win an Emmy, or at least snag a nomination, I’m not really even sure why we have the awards at all. But shows like these have overlooked what are obvious acting challenges before. I still can’t believe Andy Serkis wasn’t nominated for an Oscar for his mo-cap work in Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Performances like his and Tatiana’s here are different, pressing the bounds of the medium with the aid of technology in ways we’ve never seen before. The way we recognize actors has to change with the times.
Check out the backside of this full page LA Times ad below, which has more important sites saying the same sort of things I have.
I feel she should win it based just on her portrayals of Sarah/Beth and Helena.. let alone all the work for the other characters
Those are GREAT ads and I fully support the campaign! Maslany for an Emmy!
Also, if anyone reading isn’t already doing this, watch Orphan Black. You’ll be glad you did.
Why would Andy Serkis be nominated for an Emmy, for work he did in a movie?
She should get a best actress nod for Sarah and a supporting actress nod for Allison.
Paul, you clearly think more of the show than I do (so far as the story goes), but, yeah, I’d definite be in support of Tatiana Maslany getting (at least) a nomination for her work on ORPHAN BLACK. It’s nothing short of stellar. It’s the kind of work in television that deserves distinction.
