10 Characters We Want To See In X-Men Apocalypse
X-Men Days of Future Past definitely played their cards right by “re-setting” what happened in a few of the other movies that came before it. Now Bryan and company are able to pick up where they’ve left off and continue on with the popular Marvel franchise. Unless you live under an internet rock then I’m sure you’ve heard by now that the next installment is going to be called X-Men: Age of Apocalypse. If you want to get a sneak peak of what’s to come watch DOFP till the end of the credits and you’ll see some guy in a robe building the pyramids and a bunch of slaves worshipping him. Boom – Apocalypse has been revealed. (here’s hoping he’s all grow’d up by the time the movie comes out though) Oh and his henchmen, the 4 horsemen, happen to be in the background all blurred out. Should I have said spoiler alert? Nah, you already know all this!
I think this is the first X-Men movie that I’m actually excited to see since the very first film 14 years ago. I have my theories of what will actually happen within the film itself, but I’ll leave the speculation out of this post for now and focus more on a wish list of sorts. Let’s look at what we already know, for example, we know that there is an X-Force movie floating around in the rumor mill, we know that Deadpool has been given a green light and we also know that Channing Tatum has been cast as Remy Lebeau. What we don’t know, or at least not yet, is if they will introduce any new characters in the X-Men circle of friends. Since we don’t know who they might introduce, here’s 10 characters from the X-Men lineup that I’m hoping might make their debut.
Cable
You literally can’t have a movie about Apocalypse and not include Cable. The first time we were ever introduced to the time traveling leader of X-Force, his main objective was to prevent Apocalypse from ever coming into power. With all the time warp mind bending stuff introduced in DOFP, I’m pretty sure this is all but guaranteed. Right?
Jubilee
I’m surprised we haven’t seen the rambunctious teen grace the screen yet. Now I know that more people see her as annoying more than anything, but I think she could add an extra spark (oh, pun intended) to the cast and help lighten up the serious tones that seem to drag the movies down at times.
X-23
One of the best things the peeps at Marvel ever did was give us a spawn of Wolverine. (ok ok, she’s a clone but you get the idea) I personally feel that Wolverine (as far as the films go) has run his course and who better to take up the mantle of over brooding massacre artist other than the character with the same genome?
Polaris
Did everyone just forget about this lovely lady? Why is it that we’ve introduced Quicksilver, made an obvious easter egg attempt to nod to the audience that yes he’s Magneto’s kid but failed to say anything else about his other children? Not only that but Polaris also gets romantically involved with Havok who we already know and love.
Mr. Sinister
So, if you introduce Cable into the movies, you can’t do that without first debuting Mr. Sinister himself. The guy who many might consider a pawn in Apocalypse’s grand scheme, but might very well have his own reasons for how things play out.
Forge
Truly, Forge needs to be in the movies so we can stop watching Beast come up with all the gadgets and gizmos. Sure Beast’s intellect is unmatched, but the true “tech” wizard was and always will be Forge. Give the guy his due would ya!?
Scarlet Witch
Should I repeat that we need to see all of Magneto’s kiddos if you’re going to show at least one of them? Introducing the Scarlet Witch into the mix might help blend build some interesting dynamics considering both she and Quicksilver were originally on M’s side and fought for the Brotherhood before swapping allegiances.
Domino
Another mutant that you very well can’t help but include if you’re bringing Cable to life. She’s the guy’s lover and lieutenant of his militant group X-Force. Oh, X-Force … have I mentioned that already? Yeah – that comes into play with a lot of these characters and not just Domino.
Dazzler
When I heard that the movie was going to be taking place in the 1980’s, the first character I immediately thought of was Dazzler. (well, maybe I lied, I might’ve thought about both her and Jubilee but you get my point) Dazzler has a look that just screams to be in the 1980’s. Perfect for the movie and could be an expendable person if you’re looking for a tragic death to throw in.
Psylocke
One of my all time favorites as a kid, and not just because she was hot. Psylocke seems to be continually passed up within all these X-Films. WHY!? The girl wields a psychic knife/katana, how much more bad ass can you get? Betsy also serves up as one of the key members in the X-Force (hey, there it is again) group who goes against Apocalypse in the Age of Apocalypse. I mean, that right there is telling enough isn’t it?
Two final thoughts here, one being that women need to come more to the forefront of the X-Men theater going franchise. 7 out of the 10 people listed are kick ass women who could easily wipe the floor with many of their male counterparts. The other thought was that these are all characters that can tie in to 2 different films that are in the works that can easily branch off from the X-Men films and hopefully be a lot better than those garbage Wolverine movies. How brilliant would it be if some of these guys and gals were introduced in Age of Apocalypse but only as little party favors for what’s to come? Here’s 15 year old me crossing my fingers hoping that I’m at least half right.
(bonus points for who can guess all of the ones I’ve listed that are in X-Force at one time or another … and no, don’t Google it)
_______________
Hey guys & gals, my name is Lucas Tetrault and if you like this post or any of the others I’ve written – please feel free to venture over to my Blog and take a gander at some other stuff I write about. Heck, you can follow me on Twitter if you want. I promise I don’t intend to waste your time.
I work as a Creative Director and spend time away from my job with my family, writing for Unreality, and trying to be creative with my own personal projects.
A cameo by a couple of these would be great but a 2-2.5 hour movie can only cram in so much character building. I’d rather see them bring back Beast in a big way or laser focus on some other core team members besides Wolverine. I love Wolverine, but he’s not going to be the anchor of this franchise forever and it’s time other characters who’ve been waiting in the wings got a little love. Storm, Colossus, Ice Man and Rogue could all use some attention paid to their back stories.
I agree on the idea of other characters getting a chance to shine and to learn more about them – but Storm, Colossus, Ice Man and Rogue are all characters that have either been seen before or who don’t have interesting tales past X-Men. The ones I’ve listed allow for other movies at a later date and seem to allow for the bigger picture potential. (especially Cable and Psylocke if I had to pick 2 to add in)
Granted we can’t cram everyone in, but with the amount of people we saw in DOFP … it’s not hard to imagine how they can work certain individuals into the story.
We did see a lot of people in DOFP, but how many of them got any kind of development? Quicksilver was the only one given both decent dialog and time to shine using his powers. The rest was all people we’d seen before. I was glad Mystique had a larger role, and that’s the kind of treatment I’d like to see for other characters. Storm, Colossus, Ice Man and Rogue all have interesting back stories and tales that haven’t made it to the big screen.
Fox Marvel Movies sucks…
It’s sad but true…
Ever since seeing First Class, I’ve been saying that it would make perfect sense for Sebastian Shaw, as portrayed in the movie, to have really been Mister Sinister all along.
Granted, I haven’t gotten around to Days of Future Past yet, so I don’t know if anything happens there that would sink that particular idea…
Interesting theory … it would be quite the odd way to introduce Sinister though don’t you think? I really do hope that they use him though … great villain (much better than Shaw that’s for sure)
Yeah, it’d be odd, but Shaw’s back story and motivations in the move were so much more in line with Sinister than the comics version of Shaw.
I imagine a scene picking up immediately after everybody teleported away from the beach at the end of First Class. As soon as everybody’s gone, the supposedly dead “Shaw” stands up and dusts himself off as the hole in his head heals itself. He then morphs into his true form as Sinister and chuckles .
Pfft … ok now I can buy into that scenario you just sold me on. I’m for it!
Yet, why would sinister play dress up as shaw that whole time? What would he gain by doing any of that?
It’s part of Sinister’s MO to change aliases every couple of decades or so, at least partly so there isn’t a strange trail of amoral geneticists named Nathaniel Essex leading all the way back to Victorian England.
Also, assuming Sebastian Shaw actually existed, taking his place in the late 30s or early 40s as head of the Hellfire Club gives him direct access to resources as well as the clout to get in good with the Nazis. (Who he actually used to further his own research in the comics as well.)
What? How can Quicksilver be Magnitos kid when they are ruffly the same age?
They aren’t remotely close to the same age…? In DOFP Quicksilver is a teenager and Magneto is probably pushing his late 30’s early 40’s at best.
