How to Date Mark Hamill

Published by under Images,Movies

Back in the days before we worshipped idiots like Kim Kardashian and Snooki, celebrity magazines still existed, but focused on a different set of stars.

Here’s an excerpt from one that profiles then teen hearthrob Mark Hamill, fresh off of Star Wars and ready to date all the hot young fans flinging themselves at them.

In short, you should be a casually dressed surfer chick who loves yoga, art, sci-fi and doesn’t act “suspicious” when he’s filming with Carrie Fisher, whatever that means. Do you qualify?

A Cat for Every Pokemon

Published by under Images,Video Games

I’ve got no cool video clip to share with you today in this slot, but I do have something that moves, so I figure that almost qualifies.

It’s an exceptionally elaborate GIF that takes one cartoon cat and transforms it into literally all 150 Pokemon in I’d say under 15 seconds. A lot of work for a short result, but I’d say it was definitely worth it.

It takes a few cycles for you to actually be able to process them all. I think my favorites are when he straps on beaks to pretend to be the various birds. His Gyarados costume is pretty rad too.

Thanks to Lee for sending this in.

Young Hollywood

Published by under Images,Movies

I’m told this is a fairly old picture, but I haven’t actually seen it until now. It’s the covershoot for Vanity Fair’s Hollywood issue, which I believe ran before the Oscars last year. It features a whole host of up and coming celebrities dressed to the nines, or in Olivia Wilde’s case, dressed to the one and a quarter.

It’s just a very cool shot as you don’t get to see professional shoots with this many stars looking this good all in one place at the same time. And before I get the first comment, yes, I know that Robert Duvall snuck his way in their among the kids.

If you want the full roster since you can’t place a few faces, from left to right we have Ryan Reynolds, Jake Gyllenhaal, Anne Hathaway, James Franco, Jennifer Lawrence, Anthony Mackie, Olivia Wilde, Jesse Eisenberg, Mila Kunis, Robert Duvall, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Andrew Garfield, Rashida Jones, Garret Hedlund and Noomi Rapace.

Unreal Movie Review: Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark

Published by under Movies,Reviews

1 out of 5 stars

It breaks my heart to loathe a horror film that on the surface sounds like it has a creative concept. No murderous masked slashers, no zombies and hallelujah, no vampires. But even still, there’s no getting around how undeniably awful Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark actually is.

What’s a further disappointment is the fact that masterful creature creator and storyteller Guillermo Del Toro was intimately involved in this film. He directed PAN’S LABRINYTH, and had a hand in THE ORPHANAGE, which stands as my favorite horror film to date. Here he not only produced, but actually co-wrote the script, so then how could things go so wrong?

The concept seems fine on the surface. Sally (Bailee Madison) is a troubled child shipped off tolive with her father (Guy Pearce) who has just moved in with his interior designer and girlfriend Kim (Katie Holmes). The pair is busy renovating a creepy old house into something presentable, which hasn’t seen a resident since its original owner and his son mysteriously disappeared from the property close to a hundred years ago.

Winter is Coming, via My New Shirt

Published by under Images,Television

I often feature a lot of cool items up for sale on the internet, and sometimes I even claim they’re so rad, I’m going to buy them myself.

This is often bullshit, but when it isn’t, I like to broadcast the fact that I was actually serious. My new Direwolves t-shirt now joins the ranks of my Metal Gear Solid jacket and my Modern Warfare ski-mask as cool nerd products I’ve actually purchased.

And I have to say I highly recommend it. The print is flawless, the t-shirt material isn’t cheap or low-grade. A medium actually fits me (though I fear it may shrink a bit and put me into tight t-shirt “bro mode”), and I highly recommend one to any of you out there who are Game of Thrones fans yourselves. As a reminder yes, Stags, Lions and Dragons are also available.

This is from WinterArtwork as you may recall, and you can pick one up for yourself there.

The Girl Who Only Cosplays Zelda Characters

Published by under Images,Video Games

Today we have a lovely young girl who’s not just into cosplay, but one specific type of it alone. She has four different outfits, all of which are female Zelda characters. As you can see, she certainly has the look, and in addition to the Twilight Princess regalia above, she also does Spirit Tracks Zelda, Marin and Saria, all of which are executed to perfection.

I discovered her cosplay profile here, and it appears she’s such a huge fan, this is pretty much the only game she does. Well, she has a Rainbow Bright costume too, but that seems a bit off topic so I didn’t snag that for this gallery.

Rather all her Zelda themed outfits are below. Throw in Sheik and Princess Ruto, and you pretty much have the full collection. What do you think Na’vi looks like when you get past all that bright shining light?

Check out the other pictures:

That Guy Actor of the Week: B.D. Wong

Published by under Columns,Movies

Where do we even start with B.D. Wong?  I feel like this guy has been around forever.   I can’t believe that he’s over 50 years old right now.  Even more amazing is the fact that the dude still looks like he’s in his 30s.

Wow.  You know what’s amazing?  I had no idea his first movie was Karate Kid II.  I even remember the part where he goes “you coming to the dance tonight?”  And that was his only line.

Other than the movie though, I particularly liked him in Father of the Bride and The Freshman.   Now he’s more known for his character George Huang in Law and Order:  Special Victim’s Unit.

But Wong’s been around a while and I’m suprised we haven’t posted him yet.   A great clip of Wong after the jump….

Five Exceptionally Good Video Game Trailers

Published by under Video Games,Videos

The rise of video games in the last decade isn’t really something we need to talk about.   I think it’s pretty established.   I’d say most of us are aware of how much this medium has affected the public.  Hell, check out Comic-Con this year.   It was bigger than ever.  More celebrities.  More people.  More of a “boom” than ever.

The gaming world is here to stay.   Speaking of which, the evolution of the gaming trailer has been just as amazing.   Most of these are better than movie trailers now.

Here are five that I found to be pretty awesome…..
