I always kind of assumed that Valve games took place in some sort of alternate dimensions USA, like the DC Universe with Gotham, Metropolis, Star City, etc. I didn’t realize that they were set in actual places, much less somewhere I lived.
Yes, the observant in Portal 2 will be able to pinpoint exactly where GLaDOS’s testing site sits underground. Turns out it’s in a salt mine in Northern Michigan, likely only a few hours away from me in Ann Arbor (at least until I move at the end of the month).
Also, we learn that Cave Johnson was the best shower curtain salesman of 1943, another invaluable detail.
