“That Guy” Actor of the Week: Luis Guzman
I was 50/50 on posting Luis as a “that guy” actor but when you think about, unless you really follow film, did you know this guy’s name? I would say at least 75% of people that have seen Luis Guzman couldn’t tell you his name so I’m happy to put him up here. Besides, he still deserves his own article.
I first saw Luis in Crocodile Dundee II which was one of his first movie credits but it was Boogie Nights that made me love him. Guzman is one of those guys that doesn’t have to try to be funny. He just is. From his quirky accent to his weird lisp to his punchy face, Guzman is a great supporting actor in any film.
Personally I liked him in Waiting, Traffic, Mr. Wonderful and basically everything he’s ever been in. But let’s take a look at a Guzman clip I thoroughly enjoy….
If anyone watches Community, there was a great episode in tribute to Luis Guzman.
In the episode, he was the only famous alum of Glendale Community College so they were erecting a statue in his honor lol
Great choice! Guzman is the epitome of a strong supporting actor. One of my favorite rolls for him is in “The Count of Monte Cristo”. One of his best scenes (and funniest lines) is here:

Guzman rocks! I saw him speak at a screening of Maldeamores and he was great. He seems like a genuinely good person and he has a ton of stories to tell. His role in Boggie Nights is amazing. Did you know he actually really regrets giving his voice for Grand Theft Auto: Vice City for the way it perpetuates America’s violence culture. He’s a great guy.
I think we may see more of him than we bargained for in his next film.
